I agree with you that God doesn't do bad things to people. I think its easier for people to blame rather than accept that they were wrong or made a bad decision. Its ok God still loves them and I hope that they will realize that.

The concept of a 'Good God' and an 'Evil God' is a direct rip off of the Zoroastrian gods Ahura Mazda and Ahriman. The Ancient Hebrew priests co-opted the idea during the Babylonian exile when the Persians invaded. They needed an excuse for how there could be evil in a world created by a 'good' god. They just made satan a bit less powerful by saying he was a fallen angel and not a god.
If you want answers to these things you should probably learn about the history of your own religion.

Good and Evil are human concepts. The entire concept explodes once one has been aware for 4 billion years. Then I suppose it would be helpfull to ponder such a question. Even then one would still be a child from the trancendents point of veiw. If the soul is eternal then the human lifespan is a billisecond. That horrible thing turned out to be nothing more than a itch.
God is a devil to those who dont understand him. Placing human charecteristics on something beyond human understanding is common thing to do. If you feel you need to break it down into two Gods one evil and one not thats fine if it helps you.

I was brought up on this nonsense, but I've yet to meet anyone who claims God mistreated them. They usually blame themselves, are secretly ashamed of the difficulty they're having or worse, project their defects onto others.
We're all here to experience abundant life, but overcoming our programmed identity, feelings and behavior is complicated because we literally 'live by faith.' While cause and effect are never separated and nothing can occur in experience without our 'will or willingness' that it do so, the relationship between cause and effect is extremely complex and most of our motives and 'pain' are buried in the subconscious and difficult to get at.
Whether someone else is actually causing our difficulties and we're unable to discern why, or whether our fear and attachments may be the cause, it still is no easy task to get to the bottom of it.
Because we cannot heal or release what we can't perceive in ourselves, it is mirrored by reality. And because we can't perceive anything outside ourselves accurately - that OPPOSES what we have been taught to believe is true, it is a bit of a quandary. And, unfortunately, it is our stubborn embedded beliefs about self and the world that control our experience - EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NEVER TRUE.
But, there is always a way out. Facing the truth about our authentic needs is always the key. And, if our efforts to understand fail us momentarily, wholly WANTING a solution to present itself will still tap into the power of the responsive universe/reality we inhabit - what people call the 'love of god.' The resolution WILL be given to us if we seek it and wait for it's appearance.

Bad things will happen to good people because it is the world we live. People shouldn't blame it on God for God does not wish harm for anybody. But if people would actually read the bible they would have an understanding as to why God lets this happen....
Where is God? If He is God and in charge of this Universe, why does He allow the world to continue on its course of destruction? Why doesn't he put an end to all the cruel and bizarre things happening in our society? Habakkuk the prophet questioned God and wondered where he was when bad things happened. There are some who would believe that God who is a God of love, mercy, and compassion, does not have a thing to do with the evil that exists in the world. And they wonder what does that say about His power, authority and involvement in the affairs of men.
In the Book of Habakkuk 1:2-3, 13
Habakkuk the prophet asks the same thing:
How long oh Lord will I call for help, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out to thee, "violence!" Yet thou does not save. Why dost thou make me see iniquity, and cause me to look on wickedness?...Why dost thou look with favor on those who deal treacherously? Why art thou silent when the wicked swallow up those more righteous than they?
When Habakkuk asks these questions to God... God answers not only to Habakkuk but to those who doubt His existence and His power and authority.
If you often ask these questions and want an understanding read the book of Habakkuk which is only three chapters long. The book is a conversation between the prophet and his God. Note when God is talking and when Habakkuk is. Highlight all his questions and the answers God gives. Maybe your faith will grow and you will understand better why bad things happen in the world and God is nowhere to answer your call.

I've thought often about a simular question... about why bad things happen to "good" people. Well... I think the creator, by sheer nature of His own law of freedom cannot stop cirtain things from happening because of the "free will" issue. It's like He can INFLUENCE people to DO things (good things) but He is not able to force them to do good things. But He never influences people to do wrong things (satan does) AND will never force them to do anything wrong, even though He will allow them to, because He is our loving father afterall... He will not force. He can empower people to not get into a bad situation where they may be harmed by someone else, He can make a person safe if they are listening and are not afraid and trusting God to go where they need to go or stay where they need to stay.. etc. but He cannot make someone not do what is evil, nomatter what.
† He IS a good God. † =o)

bad things happen to good people just because that is how life is. We can't be sunshine and rainbows all the time. No god or satan about it. Life's not fair and it does not pick and choose.
Everyone has the right to believe and accept what he or she wants, but reality doesn't discriminate. Reality is not different for different people. Not once has reality excused anyone for good intentions ignorance or stubbornness. Reality shows no mercy, accepts no excuses, and issues no pardons. Reality does not "turn the other cheek." This does not mean that reality is cruel, it just means that reality is.

Satan and the devil in the little red suit doesn't exist. God is All That Is. The alpha & omega, the up & down, the yin & yang, male & female.......one can't experience happiness if they do not know sadness, one can't experience light if they haven't experienced darkness, there' no up without down, etc.
We and the "collective conscious" cause the bad things to happen...God is merely the observer....after all that is what free will is. Allowing us to choose our own experiences.
There is no satan......satan is our ego.
