IF the tattoo studio told you to put Neosporin, then you should do what they say if you want your tattoo guaranteed.
People say things with petroleum jelly like these types of ointments pull color but that is not true if the application is PROPER. It should be very, very thinly applied. You should not really see it on the skin. This is why many artists only want lotion used because it doesn't tend to sit on the skin like a big glob of ointment will if you use too much.
Pulling color occurs when the top layer won't dry up a little to peel allowing the ink to stay down in the dermis (NOT scab as someone alluded to - scabbing in NOT preferred although happens)
Don't confuse the normal loss of ink that is trapped in the outer layer of skin - all that should and will disappear. Just watch out for signs of allergic reaction to the antibiotic in the ointment.

I would never suggest using Neosporin on a tattoo. Have you had work done by this artist before? I am a tattoo artist and what you're describing really doesn't sound right. Definitely sounds like an infection. Notify the studio of what's going on... and if I were you, I'd take a trip to the docs. Better to be safe than sorry. Especially in this day and age.

Don't use Neosporin what I did with mine was A @ D ointment for 1 week then use petroleum jelly in the morning and at night use moisturizer. I have 3 tattoos 2 of them from 4 years ago and they still look new. I use Olay moisturizer.

Omg NO NO NO!!! Please dont do it! Thats stuff draws the ink out of the tattoo and it makes it easier for germs to get in. It keeps the tattoo moist so germs love because it's warm and wet. Keep it moist with aveno lotion or A&D ointment. a thin layer of the ointment will do great 3 x a day. Vitamin A and D are in the ointment and they are both very important to the process of healing the skin.

You can use it for the first couple of days, but not too much. Using neosporin too much won't allow your tattoo to scab up and when it does scab your scab will be soft and wet. After the first day or two you should use lubriderm (unscented). I usually use tattoo goo on mine, but I have use neosporin/lubriderm before.
this website will give you proper onstructions on tattoo aftercare... http://www.ftheworld.com/tattoo_aftercare.htm
** By the way, plastic wrap is only used when you are leaving the tattoo parlor so that you won't ruin your clothes with ink and blood and so it will stay clean till you can get home and clean it. If you keep plastic wrap on your tattoos they will not breath therefore they won't heal and they could get infected.
