I have to leave job for which I did not have time to notify my employer 2 weeks before I quit. My planes changed so fast. I have to quit immidiately, but I I still have my shift schedule for tommorow. I work at Starbucks as barista. Should I make call and tell them that my car broke and cannot come and later send or call them that I quit. OR shut I just call and tell them I am done. Which option is best for me (not employer). I know it is not nice to lie, but I have to move to another location (as I go to college). And besides I was neither always treated there with respect. What would you tell?

I told my manager week ago that I got on-campus housing (as soon as I found out), but then she was working me out plan that I can still work, by commuting by car from college in the city to starbucks in far suburbs. She was supposed later to talk with me how I could find parking and work it out, but it never happened. After that conversation I haven't seen and talk with her.

hmm how about you tell your manager that you are moving due to college and it was sudden so you can't give a 2 weeks notice.

Before you send anything in writing, may I suggest a spell checker? :-/

Anyway, Starbucks is full of college students. Were you planning on going back to Starbucks to work anyway? Go to the manager and tell him/her that travel for school is starting before you had planned and you have no choice but to leave now. Thank them all over the place for the experience and let it go at that. Maybe you will have another job with them next summer.

Respect begets respect, by the way.

The result for the employer is the same regardless of what you tell them. You are also killing any opportunity of returning to that employer. The only potential downside for you is if a future employer contacted them for a reference.

Why not just contact them and tell them you must deal with a personal situation and regret not being able to provide any notice?

Tell it like it is.
Your moving to college to pursue a life and new career.
And leave those 50 year old suckers behind to realize "Wow, im a barista for life"

Pick up your last paycheck and head the hell out.

How does college come up suddenly? You must've known that you would be going to college. What's best for you? You do what you want.
