There is no proof that there is a heaven/hell, but there is also no proof that there isn't. But how do we know what happens when we die? What would make us different from any other creature on earth? I mean..what happens to bugs, or dogs, or birds when they die? If there is life on other planets, what happens to them? Do they even die? Do only humans go to Heaven/Hell? How do we know that the bible is true if it was written by man? Personally, I do believe in God, but sometimes I just wonder how anyone can be so SURE about where we go after our time on Earth....

The bible said that Jesus would return after 2000 years. How come he hasn't returned?
It sees like when I ask a priest these questions they try to avoid answering them. I hate to ask these kinds of questions but the church never wants to answer them.

Plants have a body. Animals have a body and a soul. Man has a body, soul and spirit. On spiritual beings will be judged and receive new eternal bodies. We have all sinned and deserve to go to hell. But God demonstrates his love in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. His blood washes away all of our sins and we can enter into heaven for eternity because of what He has done for us. If you don't understand but sense it is true in your heart, make that decision to trust Jesus today.

Try asking another religious official, perhaps a Muslim. Muslims believe in the same God as Christians and Jews.

Good luck. I wish I could help you more but I am still on my quest for the meaning of life, etc. I am learning about different religions and beliefs, and science. What I have found has led me to believe there is a God who created the world. There is so much we don't know and haven't seen that the idea of a heaven is still as likely as it is not.

To define heaven you would need to define a soul. Do trees have souls? The question is how do these souls come into existence and what happens to them after death. If a person had half his brain transplanted into another person, would there then exist two souls where there had only been one? Is a soul merely a collection of nerve impulses? If so, does it have to be a nerve or can it be the nucleus (control center) of a cell. Does every cell have its own soul? Where did the first living cell come from?

This is how we know there is a God.
Heaven is the default location for a soul once we can no longer detect it. Should a person's whole soul go to hell if only part of his soul made a bad decision?

Perhaps we are reincarnated and heaven is just one of the places we can be reincarnated to?

Perhaps it is the job of humans to make earth into heaven. It would be heaven if people did not fight and made sure everyone is well off.

Don't feel embarrassed about asking these questions. It is the job of the church to make religion accessible to all. It is not right for the priest to avoid answering your legitimate questions that God gave you the capacity to think up.

Again, Good luck.

I used to reason out that yeah, we're not really sure if there's a heaven or a hell, but we've got nothing to lose if we believe in it and everything to lose if we don't. But I believe in God.. I believe in the God the Bible speaks about because i have experienced Him in my life. I believe in the Bible not only because it has been amazingly written over a span of thousands of years and yet the books consistently talk about the same thing--the coming of the Jesus who, in history, was a real man who walked the face of the earth who has changed the world so much that His birth became the dividing point of world history (B.C. and A.D.). I believe in the Bible as the Word of God mainly because I have seen people stood by it and their lives were changed tremendously. I believe in it because it has changed my life as well.

Like our belief in God, to believe in the Bible and what it says requires faith. Faith is the conviction of things unseen and since we were not there when all these books were written, we have to take a step of faith to believe in it. How do we know that a chair can hold our weight? we have to take that step of faith to sit on it. So, I suggest that you read the Bible and ask the God of the Bible to reveal Himself to you through His word. Try it and you might find your life changed tremendously like mine!.. and you will never doubt things like heaven or hell again.;-D

by the way, the Bible did not say Jesus will return after 2000 years, but it does say that He will return like a thief in the night in an unexpected time that the Father only knows when. (Matthew 24:43-44)

A large number of questions, but to err on the side of God would be the safe thing and would be a good person on this side of the grave.
Where does the Bible say Jesus would return in 2000 years, the Bible says no one knows when He will return.

I am by no means a "bible scholar", but being raised a Catholic there were plenty of questions I asked as a teen that never got an answer. For instance, "if I commit sin and am truly sorry for it and ask our Lord for forgiveness, will he forgive me?" Answer from the priest, "Of course, he is a loving God". My retort, "then why do I have to tell you". I started going straight to our heavenly father for forgiveness. So I suggest you go outside the Catholic church, to some of the Evangelical, bible teaching churches, and ask your question. I guarantee you will get an answer. No offense to Catholicism, but the bible clearly states (as in the ten commandments) not to worship or pray to other Gods. Why do they pray to Mary, Joseph and a host of other "saints". I have no problem talking directly to our Lord, and I know he listens; I don't need a "middle man". There are plenty of denominations out there that will give you honest and direct answers. God Bless you in you search.

You either believe that the Bible is true or you do not. Hell and heaven are real places. Your opinion about them will not change what they are.

The only thing the Bible says about the timing of Jesus' return is that we need to be ready. Only God knows when.
