lust is usually just physical, and doesnt usually last the years (but can sometimes) if your looking for a relationship. lust is wanting to drag someone off to bed asap. or if you find yourself gazing at their eyes, arms, butt etc, wanting to feel their skin, and everything else.your body feels electric when your near them.
love is wanting to lay awake all night talking about anything and everything with them.
love is wantng to care for someone if they are sick, wanting protect them or feel protected, like you feel with your family. worrying about them, wanting to be with them all the time. it feels like you are going to explode with happiness when you are with them, or like you are going to be sick (lolol).
and you can feel both love and lust for someone at the same time.

i don't think you can tell early on in a relationship. after a few months (about 6) after being around a person if you still feel all crazy about them it's love. Infatuation tends to fade after being around a person and seeing the real them.
