The holy appearance day of Sri Krishna the Supre Personality of God head (Also known as Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, Rama, etc.) is coming up. Are any of you celebrating it on the weekend or on His actual appearance date or both? What are your plans? I know the International Socieity for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Temples are having wonderful celebrations. IE: free Vegetarian love feasts and lots of dancing and music. Everyone is invited no matter what your religion. It is a great time. World Peace.

Yes we are celebrating it on 4th Sept, 07, late evening at our house and preparations are going on.

This is also known as Krishna Jayanthi. We celebrate the birthday of Krishna in the month of Avani (Aug-Sept) on Ashtami Thidhi and star Rohini.

we celebrate this festival preparing sweets and savories which Lord Krishna likes. we decorate the idol or picture of Krishna , decorate the floor with kolams , we draw the footprint of Lord Krishna depicting his entrance into our home.. from the door to the pooja place. It is believed that Krishna comes to our houses. we sing Bhajans, songs in praise of Lord Krishna like Jaya Devar's Ashtapathi(geetha govindam) and read Bhagvad Gita and other Krishna Slokas. Lord Krishna was born in the evening and so this festival is celebrated in the evening or late evening towards midnight only.

We place all kinds of fruits, betel etc along with Coconut, Chapped rice (aval - this is his favourite as the poor Sudama gave it to him) butter, Milk Sweets - Thiratupal, other sweets and savories which are the favourites of Lord Krishna, and do pooja.

Temples are decorated for the occasion. Kirtans are sung, bells are rung, the conch is blown, and Sanskrit hymns are recited in praise of Lord Krishna. At Mathura (a city in North India, near the birthplace of Lord Krishna), special spiritual gatherings are organized at this time. Pilgrims from all over India attend these festive gatherings.

We will also visit ISCKON Bangalore on that day.-

I certainly am going to try. A Krishna-Conscious friend of mine is having activities at her place, so I may just join in. We also have a Krishna Janmastami puja, so I may sing bhajans for it. It's the least I can do, and the best way to put what little skill I have singing to good use. :)

Umm, is this an open to all or to temple and faithful only type? Sf gate had no result in search box, and I never heard of this in SF bay area.

Sorry for all the hate, did not know people hated others so much, but heard stories. Interesting as Islam and Christians should not be doing that.
Sorry to bother you.

Actually the whole creation is celebrating this occasion, whether you can see it or not!!!
Those who think they have a choice whether to celebrate it or not, are ignorant about their being in the scheme of things - The Kaal!
