Hello everyone,
Well, I'm about to turn 16 and I've decided I'd like to start working. I need a good job, but I don't want it having to do with flipping burgers or frying fries or anything like that. Also, I don't want to work at like Wal-Mart or some other shopping market franchise. I'd like to work possibly at the mall, or even be a caddie at a local golf course if at all possible. Or even work at the local hospital. Do you think I'll be able to land these types of jobs living in TX?
Also, do I need a work permit? If so, where do I go and get one?

Thanks,
Jalapeno10
P.S.- If you have some other job ideas, I'd love to hear them.

You should not be fussy about your decisions on work choices. Not everyone gets what they want. If you do not have any work experience, you would have to start from the bottom of the ladder and work your way to the top (which is your preferred job). Most places hiring now rather have work experience people over the non-experience. This is because they are too lazy to train them and such. If you work in the hospitality area, you can then quit months later and then you can add this into your resume (your work experience, not when you quit)

One of the biggest mistakes in pursuing work is to be impatient.

In reality if you are 16, didn't graduate from high school, haven't finish any further qualification, then your future is not that good.

However, having said that, with determination and desire anyone can succeed at anything.

Firstly, you are in the area or part-time, crappy jobs. So take whatever you can find. When the job annoys you move on to something else. But have a goal, what you want to do in the future, and select the jobs that match with those.

Walmart might not be such a bad option, as large business chains like are success because they promote within and encourage you to study part-time while you work.

First step is make up a simple 1 page resume.

Go to places where you want to work, and give it to the manager. But remember, a jobs like a caddy go to people who know about golf, there is more to the job than just carrying the clubs around.

Good luck.

In most states, 16 needs a working permit and if you want to get a job at a golf course or the mall, start applying now. they'll tell you what kinds of permits and things like that which you may need. they can also tell you where to get one, although high school guidance offices and city halls can usually issue you one.

I doubt you need a work permit at 16, but working at wal-mart is CAKE! Why would you want to pass that up?

Volunteer. Volunteers don't get paid, but volunteer positions can be a lead in to a paid position. Hospitals , schools, and libraries may hire volunteers.
Look in your newspaper and you may find some volunteers positions tudoromg young or foreign students.
Volunteering looks good on your resume.
