in our english class one boy talked about atheism and the majority of the rest of the class did not take part saying it is too much for them to discuss. Why do people cannot discuss rationally about this subject? whether they consider right or wrong ?

Well, believers and more so, young believers have a hard time understanding someone's disbelief.

When children believe in Santa and another child says it ain't true and there is no Santa, well, I remember children having fights over that.

Most young people have a matter of fact, straight forward view of life, and if you are different, well, then you are viewed as different. And not likeable.

Personable I take atheism as any thing else, I don't care much one way or the other. But then I have never actually talked to anyone that claimed to be an atheist, at least, not at any length. Course, I seldom talk to other Christians about Christianity, either.

It's a tough one to talk about in a classroom setting for several reasons. First, if someone is going to talk about atheism, then others should have the right to talk about their religious *beliefs*. It wouldn't be fair to allow someone to talk about something that goes against someone else's beliefs, and then not give that person a voice. School really isn't the place for that. Second, it's a very complex subject, and it's not really something that could be covered in the time that you have in a classroom setting. Third, not everyone might want to talk or hear about it. It might make some people uncomfortable, and in a classroom, they're forced to sit there and listen. A subject like that is best discussed in a setting where everyone is comfortable, and ready and willing to sit and listen to each other.
(Atheist)

This can be a big subject to get into. The discussion could get pretty heated and involved. Maybe they just didn't want to go there. Or maybe they thought english class was not an appropriate setting for this discussion.... Peace.

I really can't say why for sure. Atheism seems to fall into the religious realm and people are always uncomfortable talking about religion. I guess I'd have to know exactly what this guy was saying ABOUT atheism. Other than that, beats me why people shy away from such issues. Controversy scares some people I suppose.

Because atheists and Christians always seem to get in fights over silly little things. I'm a Christian, but just because someone doesn't believe what I do doesn't mean that I'm going to be prejudice against them and tell them that they're going to hell. I mean, there is even animosity between different branches of Christianity. I'm Catholic, and everyone seems to have the preset that my priests all go around molesting little boys. So if there is prejudice within a shared religion, then there is definitely going to be fights between devout Christians and devout Atheists. The two can never seem to concur on anything. But I believe it's worng to be prejudice based on beliefs, so I can't see why it's a touchy subject.

The answer is actually quite simple. It stems from the misconception that Atheism is a disbelief in God and nothing more. The fact that atheism can be practiced in some extremely spiritual ways (e.g. Buddhism) and that reasons for someone to believe in atheism can be incredibly complex. To be honest, I think you could do a lot more working with atheism because of this incredibly vast diversity.

Too much to discuss? I don't get that. But a lot of people are afraid to say how they really feel about atheism or religion because of being attacked by people with opposing viewpoints instead of conversing about it rationally like adults.

Atheism is considered a doctrine to many people and they don't want to believe it is a religion of any kind if God is not in the equation. I don't believe it is a religion but a misguided and mis informed state of mind. But indeed atheism is someone who believes in no God so you would think this belief falls within the category of religion, but religion to me has to do with God and believing in His Word and way of life. Anyways I don't think your class didn't take part in the conversation because of your talking about atheism..I think most people don't like to talk about religion period in a class room environment. Religion was never taught in schools and was prohibited and still today so I can see why they were at a loss for words.

Who pronounced Atheism is a faith? Atheism isn't a faith. Come wisely...''Atheists are the girls and adult males individuals who do no longer have faith something with out ideal information''. Who worried approximately them or their concern or their standards? First, there is not any atheists here in india. Atheists are extra in christianity, and in the western international places. There are as many motives for being an atheist as there are atheists: the line to atheism has a tendency to be very very own and person, based upon the centred circumstances of a character’s existence, reviews, and attitudes. in spite of the fact that, that is a threat to describe some accepted similarities which tend to be customary between somewhat purely some atheists, particularly atheists in the West. this may be a dazzling question; regrettably, it isn’t relatively common to respond to. Many atheists discover their physique of suggestions to disbelief by using way of technology. Over the centuries technology has come to present day motives of aspects of our word that have been as quickly as the unusual part of religion. as a results of fact that scientific motives have been extra efficient than non secular or theistic motives, the flair of religion to call for allegiance has weakened. for this reason, some persons have come to absolutely reject now no longer maximum effective faith, yet in addition concept in the existence of a god. For them, gods are ineffective as an reason for any function of the universe and supply no longer something relatively worth investigating. have you ever ever heard of 'smart atheists'? that is a classification utilized by using some non secular theists to describe in basic terms about all those theists who technically sense in a god, in spite of the fact that who behave immorally. the thought is that ethical habit follows promptly from actual theism, hence immoral conduct is a very final consequence of now no longer actually believing. Theists who behave immorally have have been given to relatively be atheists, regardless of what they think approximately.

I would think that if you were in English class you should be talking about literature or grammar. Unless you are discussing a book about atheism.
Most people who are afraid to talk about it are either - secretly thinking it's true and are involved in a religion and are afraid to face the truth. Or they are an atheist and are worried that people will be offended or will judge him or her.
