About 60 hours. It was because I was working several jobs and over the course of a few days, I was literally going from one to another.
I won't do that again. By the time I was finally done, I was so tired I could hardly move.
I'm an EMT...being up for 60 hours is scary, isn't it??

I'm sorry you've gone through all of this. It was a shock, I imagine, to find you're pregnant again so soon after the first. The problems in the pregnancy and the birth then later finding out she has a serious problem will not help. It's a lot of stress and I think your partner was an insensitive pr*ck to be perfectly honest. If you want to call your daughter Alfie you go right ahead gal! You don't need his permission to change it and I'm not sure about New Zealand but in the UK you can change it free of charge before they turn a year old. So you go ahead and do it. You went through the labour so you choose the name- that's my feelings on the matter! As for the bonding- I found it hard, I had a 36 hour labour with an episiotomy. I found it hard to BF and to bond. It didn't help my husband was with me in labour making stupid comments when I was in agony! Afterwards I felt like no one was around to help. But you do have to remember that she was in your tummy for 9 months and she will be different to your son but she is still YOUR child. These problems she's having with her anus will soon be corrected. I know its hard to deal with a baby in general and these issues will add to the stress but you will both get over them eventually. Keep up the breast feeding and see if you can get a relative to take your son for a couple of hours a week so you spend time alone with her. Do things differently with her- don't try to make her like your son, appreciate that she's different and do different things. You know all the things you wanted to get round to but didn't with your son? Do that with your little girl! Also, take a camera, get some nice pictures and make a scrap book. It'll all come together in time. Take care and best wishes x

I am an insomniac, and the longest I have gone was about a week. I have always had problems sleeping since I was little. I can live on 3 hours or less. Recently I saw a Dr and he proscribed something to me to help. I have been with out the sleep aid now for about a week and I am still sleeping. Tips
Go to bed at the same time
stay away from all caffeine drinks your body may be sensitive to it.

I have been 5 days with no sleep, no drugs needed. I own a company and due to the nature of the company it operates 24/7. After the 3ird day I cant say if I was sleepy but things were not what they should have been. People had to repete themself, often, I had to leave sticky notes around my desk to remember to do things. I would start to do something and forget what I had gotten up to do..oh wait I still do that. That may have had nothing to do with lack of sleep. I got really short with everyone around me, didnt want to eat, because I didnt want to get tired, I drank a lot of Lime Gatoraide those 5 days. Who knows how many packs of smokes I went through, I would be afraid to even ball park it.
The fifth night is when a friend grabbed me by the arm and promised me that the world with all of its troubles would still be there when I woke up, she drove me home and I hit the couch, too tired to walk up the stairs to find the bed.
The worst thing about staying up that long? When your brain starts to unwind and the vivid dreams start. You dont fall right into a deep dreamless sleep, I dont think I got back into a good sleeping habit for days after that. I was sleeping about 3 hours a night and then I would be wide awake.
Nothing is going to happen to you, when your body (or your friends) have had enough, you will go to sleep.

4 days.... Then on the 4th day, I had to drive thru 2 States (a really stupid thing to do when I think back on it). I actually started to hallucinate. I saw these huge imaginary sinkholes start appearing in front of the car and I kept swerving around them. Once, I even thought I saw a head on a pole on the side of the road. Though it was severed, the head was still alive and I swear it was looking at me!!! I slept for 2 days when I got home. I never, never, never wanna be awake that long ever, ever, ever again.
add/edit:
To jloertscher (about 7 answerers below me)... Lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who ever had the "head" hallucination... I always thought that was just me. lol!!!
To TwisDeadSoul... I don't think you're gonna die man, really... Just don't do anything dangerous like driving or operating any heavy machinery until you get some sleep. ...When you start to feel drunk and hallucinate, that's when you know, no matter what, you have to get some sleep soon.

About 24 hours. More than that and I would fall asleep on my feet- literally.
The first time was when I had to go in to the doctor for some tests that required me to be in a sleep-deprived state.
The second time was when I got a third-shift job and needed to reset my little biological clock quickly.
It effected my vision some, and my motor control more. Maybe I could do it again- but I wouldn't like it.

60 hours at a stretch, but for weeks afterwards I was forced to get by on 3 to 5 hours per night. After a while, I started having hallucinations. It started with 'flies' in my peripheral vision crawling on papers or the table I was working on. It moved on to seeing 'snakes' and eventually large heads screaming at me.
Gotta love the marines!

3 days.
It made me cranky, very quiet, sore and really hungry.
I stayed up cuz I had a bunch of schoolwork. Lots of studying and going to class and projects, ect.
The 4th day was great though...I slept for a day and a half and then ate the biggest meal. It was very refreshing.

You won't die. You'll feel bad but you won't die. My longest was about 2 nights, I think over 48 hours in total.
