And if you have an accident in those 30 days, what do you think happens? Free money from the sky to fix the problem, pay medical bills, etc?
"I heard" is a notoriously poor research tool.
You have to have insurance. You have to have registration, or a temporary registration permit, or have disposed of a vehicle you are going to transfer registration from. The time limits depend on the state or province you live in. In Manitoba, for instance, the transfer period is 7 days.

You may be able to drive it for 30 days without registration, depending on the state. But without insurance, absolutely not. Sometimes, auto dealers include 30 days worth of insurance in the sale price, so you have enough time to get your own, but don't assume this is true unless you have it in writing.

NO WAY----only a real dealer gets that luxury but insurance is a must from the start. Don't fall for that--a cop will tow it away and you get uninsured tickets.....that is a lot of cash to lose. You must get plates or a temporary registration before you can drive it from a private guy--the insurance company only needs a phone call and some questions answered.----it is easy

You usually do have 30 days to get it registered, but you have to get it insured right away.
