She only barks when scared, and it's more like whinning. She doesn't even bark when she is around other dogs, even if the other ones are barking. I have not ever heard her bark. Any idea why?

Count Your Blessings, beagles are crazy barkers and howlers by nature.I think she is fine though. i just talked to a woman the other day, when i commented on not getting a beagle because of the constant barking or howling, she told me her beagle hardly ever makes a sound.and now your beagle is quiet too? maybe i will get a beagle.

Maybe she's just a sweet dog. There can be many reason's why. Did you get her when she was a puppy? Has she ever been abused? If she has that can be a reason why she doesn't. I've heard of dogs that have been abused and won't bark because each time they did their owner would hit them. If that's not what happened then I'm not sure why she's not barking. My friend has owned beagle's before and they usually bark alot about everything, most beagle's do, so again, I'm not sure why yours isnt.Good luck though. Kelly

Count your blessings! Some dogs just don't seem to bark at the drop of a hat. Some breeds are very quiet (huskies for example). Beagles tend to be more vocal but all dogs are individual. For some reason your dog prefers not to bark. Imagine how many people have the problem of a dog that won't be quiet.

As a beagle breeder I would have a real problem with a beagle that didn't bark. I literally have a half a century invested into the development of "proper mouth" in my dogs.

Some dogs just don't bark as much. My first Dal never barked until I go the second one. The second one was a little older when I got her (6 mos.) and she did bark. The second Dal taught the first one to bark. I wish she hadn't, but the first one picked it up from the second.

Beagles tend to vocalize more by whining than by barking, and they vocalize A LOT. When they do bark, it often sounds like they are trying to roar and it ends in a whine. I think it's obnoxiously cute.

Don't even worry about it.. Beagles have one of the most annoying barks going.. If your dog is quiet.. You should keep it that way..

i suposse there could be something physically wrong but not to the point that it will hurt her. be grateful she doesn't bark. our neighbor's beagle has the worst bark. it sounds like someone's grabbing him by the b#lls.
