Our family cat has two hairless patchs on his side. They are about the size of a quarter. They do not seem to be spreading or causing him discomfort. The skin looks very dry. Any ideas what this is and a cure?

It's most likely ringworm (which is not a worm, it's a fungus under the surface of the skin). If you can pull at the fur along the edges lightly and it comes off in your fingers, then it's ringworm.

Treat with three times daily applications of 4% Miconazole (in the 'feminine' section of Walgreens, about $8 a tube, a lot cheaper than the vet's $20 a tube of the same thing). It'll go away in about a month.

Could be anything from ringworm to psychogenic alopecia or a whole host of things in between. It all depends on appearance of the underlying skin, the distribution, the age of the cat, any other concurrent diseases, etc.

Best to go to the vet, anyone offering suggestions on here will only be guessing; and it is always a bad thing to guess at a diagnosis.

I wouldn't begin to guess at this. It could be any number of things. Even though it doesn't seem to be bothering the cat or causing discomfort it's best to get him to the vet to make sure it's nothing to worry about. Best wishes and good luck :).

My cat had eczema from an allergic reaction to a cat handle I gave her and it led to her to lose a number of her fur. It grew to become into like a patch of dry epidermis. call your vet first ingredient in the morning, if this is a good vet they'll take you suitable away. stable good fortune and that i desire your kitty is great

My cat had the same thing at one time. It had some sort of illness but I'm not sure what that was. Call an animal doctor

He either has fleas or an allergy to something. Only a vet can tell you for sure.
