First of all I am an Israeli but that’s just because I was born here and can totally understand why you hate us. We suck big time. Occupation and all that.
I had a debate with my friend’s cousin today.
He says Islam is a bad religion is a bad religion cause Islamic countries, how do I say it… deprive people of there basic human rights more then Christians ones. And spatially woman. I was on your side, telling it’s got nothing to do with religion and it doesn’t say that Islam is less of a good religion then others. But he had many good arguments. You can deny it. But there are many cases of murder on the family over owner. Every day I can here in the news about a murder in the Arab community. And woman has almost no rights at all.
They are like an object in mans hands. She must marry the man chosen by her father even if she doesn’t like him. She is not aloud to date before marriage. And if she dose some thing wrong her life is in danger. And she is defiantly not equal to man. Those are pretty strong arguments. Those are all bad things if you did not know.
He told me he has an Arab Muslim colleague who thinks it is right to kill a woman if she sleeps with a man from another village. I don’t know it is right I find it hard to believe. But if it is what do you have to say for your self. And don’t tell me it’s your tradition. You would not like this tradition if you were a woman. And I do not try to be offensive. I have a lot respect for Islam,
But also a lot respect for woman’s rights.

As non arab Muslimah, I am tired to hear people judge Islam by seeing Arabian Muslim habits,
why people think that Arab Muslims represent the true Islam?
Why don't they see Muslims in other place?
When they will stop thinking that Arab culture means Islam?

Hi Daglas,
women do have rights in Islam. I am going to answer you question and then provide the proper links that prove my answer.
It is not true that women are killed eveyday in the Arabic world. Some women get killed by men relatives for commiting adultery but not everyday. In the Quran, the punishment for committing adultery for both women and men is stoning. However, because it is easier to know if the woman commited adultery you hear that women get punished for it more than men. It is not Islamic to kill a person for that but the culture puts more restrictions on women than men and unfortunately a lot of men with closed minds think that a woman should be killed for doing 'zonat' and they are more tolerant with men who do it.
Second only a few men, mainly those in Saudi Arabia and those men who are still living in the dark ages think that they should keep women in their hands. This is also not Islamic, again it is just cultural. Women must marry the man chosen by her father, this never rarely happens and almost never happens nowadays. If a woman was forced to marry a man she doesn't like she has the right to leave him at any time according to islam and the marriage is not considered legal.
Yes it is true that women are not allowed to date before marriage and that is why there is the engagement period. If two muslims loved each other they get engaged and when they get to know each others very well only then they get married other wise they break up. Now some people look at girls who break up as a shame but this is also a stupid cultural thing it is not islamic. Islam gave completely equal rights to women as to men.
I don't know what is happening I can not post the link here yahoo is not allowing me. I will email them to you.
Thanks for asking

i think tradition and religion is just a big stupid excuse, it so amazing how naive people can be when it comes to "tradition" i am so glad i wasn't born over there, i would have committed suicide by now. its not fair that the man gets to sleep around but if its a woman she dies that is totally unfair and over the line, there is not excuse for killing ANYONE accept for self defense, women over there are dying or should i say being murder for the littest things and whats sad is some women accept it, being all dressed and covered with scarfs but the man can just wonder freely in anything, sometimes mankind doesn't make any sense

Like the other people before me have said, it is their culture, not their religion...

I am an american muslimah... i am not abused nor oppressed... now, if i was in afganistan, i don't know how i would be treated.

But then, that is the reason i, as a muslim woman, would not go to some of those countries...

But that is not Islam, that is their culture. I love being muslim. no muslim man has ever treated me with anything other than the upmost respect.

Islam promotes and sanctions gender equality according to Divine Order, not the western world's order.

In Islam, women are equal with men, not the same as or identical with men. Big difference. Women are men's human, social, intellectual, and spiritual equals. Not superior. Not inferior. Equal. Of course, women are not biologically or physically the same as men; however, women are never to be looked down upon, never to be viewed as less human, and are not inferior to men because they're female. Men do not belong to the "superior" or "chosen" gender.

First of all I accept all your comments are certainly not offensive . Like in every other thing, Islam is being blamed for all the actions of muslims. Due to westernisation, many good things are getting changed although every one knows it is wrong. For example, Gay marriage is being legal in the most technologically advanced places. No one blames Christianity for that. But if name sake muslims do some wrong, Islam is blamed. This is one way followed by the anti-islamic forces who own today's Press and media trying to suppress the growth of Islam. ANy way this in no way will affect a true muslim. For women's rights issue, as you said men and women are not equal. But both has to co-exist for human being to live and flourish. Like we read in Physics, each atom has electrons and protons. No true scientist will ever try to debate that both are equal. But certainly for a stable atom both are needed. Likewise men and women are to be seen as two different creations by the Almighty God to live together in peace. But unfortunately today, in the name of women equality women are being exploited by men for their selfish motives. Look at the statistics of Rapes and molestations taking place in USA alone. Is it increasing when compared to 5 years before. Or remains the same or has decreased. Surely every one knows it has increased at tremendous speed. What is the reason? it is simple. Anti-femine forces are exploiting the women. There is no exception to this. It all happens even in Saudi Arabia. That is why Islam suggests an in-built mechanism for protecting women against men. And like a dress cover is prescribed for women, a more tough condition is commanded by Islam for men also. They have to lower their Gaze when dealing with women. This involves controlling their ownself both physically and mentally. Severe punishment is recommended for sexual offence in Islam. Please refer the website for more on this issue. We had a case of the president who controlled the No.1 country of the world also exploited his own female staff for his sexual desire. (Monica Seles issue)
Today we have such leaders all over the world. That is why all bad things are made to appear as good for human life. All good things are becoming less common every where. Reason is man is made to forget the purpose of his existence in this mortal world. Just live as you like, survival of the fittest are some of the dangerous policies being propagated now.

women do have rights in islam, but not in some people's cultures. many muslims just like christians and jews do many things against their religion and in their ignorance say it is the religion. i know some muslims who say that taking a bath is haram, because soap is made of pig fat even though it isn't and that has NOTHING to do w/ islam, it is their ignorance. because we have to bathe ourselves in islam. and the whole being forced into marriage thing is against islam. no one is supposed to be forced into marriage, but that is a traditional thing, but it isn't religios. and in islam women do have rights, especially over men, but people like i said aren't following that and in their ignorance don't know the difference b/w religion and culture. and in many cultures women are inferior, because you see in some societies even w/ none muslims, which tells me that it isn't islam it is the culture and how people choose to practice it.

i think the main problem w/ people nowadays is that they try to change religions or just not follow them, but still call themselves "believers" and they bring bad images to religions and ways of life.

ex: christian extremists who blew up abortion clinics, they neglected the fact that murder is wrong in their religion no matter who is doing it.
-muslim extremists who kill their daughters for being raped and they haven't investigated anything, but they just want to keep their "honor"
-jewish extremists who kill palestinians for no apparent reasons, just because they can and they are the chosen people

none of these examples that i mentioned have anything to do w/ the religions themselves they have to do w/ people twisting them into whtat they want them do be in order for them to get away w/ the crap that they do. and i am not offended by what you said

What youre describing, is CULTURE! and a rooted one too. Not Islam.

How do I know?

Because the worlds LARGEST female lead society (opposite of male lead) are Muslim.

Why dont you read up on them and find out WHY they chose Islam as a religion.

Cheers.

its just a matter of their traditions, a muslim country isn't always like that but most of them are, why? because they are still living in the 14th century, isreal is a modern free country where ppl can choose to live their own lives, most of islam is completely backwards, sympathetic to ppl who kill themselves and innocents, they r in a religious war with the whole world, and women & children dying is not important to them.
