more often than not antidepressants are like cocaine or Methamphetamine. to take a pill prescribed by a doctor is no different than drinking a bottle of whiskey or other alcholic beverage. All of it, changes the mental thinking of a persons mind. Sometimes there are medical benefits no matter what you take.

Hon, they aren't the same thing! Your doctor is making an informed decision when he writes that prescription! He is ordering the exact dosage! To compare an Rx to whiskey or street drugs is a fool hardy decision! **Good Luck! I really mean it!

I don't know where you are getting your information, but you clearly have been misinformed. I tried street drugs to feel better, and only made myself that much worse. Since using medication, I can think clearly, remember better, experience life's emotions appropriately, have hope for my future, my flashbacks and night terrors are all but gone, I make sense to others now where I did not before. In short, where I was once a hopeless mess, declared incurable by some, I am now able to function at a very high level. I am really upset by the judgments being put out here about medication which gave me life again. There is a monumental difference between taking street drugs, and taking medication prescribed by an informed professional. I used to shoot cocaine, it ruined what little life I had. I had a horrible existence before my medication routine, now I have a life. Prior to medication, I had a very good suicide plan, and fully intended to go through with it. Prior to medication I used to cut myself. Today I am a normal, functioning adult. Thank God for psychiatric medications. Stop already with the bs about medication if you have no emotional disorders. You know nothing of which you speak.

drugs are drugs you take anything out there and you can find somebody that it screwed up. But I will say I know a lot more people on the street, in prison or in the ground from street drugs and alcohol then antidepressants, Some people can fool around with drugs and not suffer anything major some cant touch a joint or a bottle without losing it all. There is a lot of potential for abuse with prescription drugs but there also a lot of benefits when they are taken as prescribed by a doctor.

ok I have ben around the block a few times so I am replying from personal experience.I started with pot and did many other illegal drugs. During the entire time I never had met anyone who smoked pot who did not do any other illegal drugs First off when you buy illegal drugs you ave no idea what you are buying -pot laced with tcp? Doing illegal drugs may have medical uses who really knows.Drinking bring it's own set of problem alcolohism, dwi,ect so it is no diferent
except it is legal if you are able to drink, the same with cigarettes which have there issues to long term use can produce different cancers.

When a person has disrupted the chemical balence in thier brain so they are out of touch with reality they are institionialized and the dr may prscribe haldol.,along with a host of other medications. These usually are intended to restore the correct balance in the brain so a person can be in touch with reality and hopefully live a meaning full life.with minimal matience.

There are thre givens when you do illgal drugs death, prison,or hospitalization..

So to anwsar you question the two are not related.

Any substance that is psychoactive is a drug that can be addictive. For some strange reason, the "war on drugs" has brought us to this place where there are good drugs, and bad drugs. I have seen people who gulp down Thorazine and chase it with scotch talk about how drug dealers should "be shot". It is too bad that this hysteria has taken over reasonable research and discussion about drugs. Alcohol and Tobacco kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year but the way the laws seem to punish the crack users like they are mass murderers. People think that just because a pharmacists handed you the bottle, that it is safe to take pills. It is too bad.

I agree that alot of RX drugs often produce effects much the same. However Uncle Sam cant dip his finger into the illegal ones...plus the drug companies dont make a profit. There are actually some states that you can actually get a permit for growing weed...a limited number of plants per person per permit. I personally think this is the way forward. Uncle Sam can then get his profit..and people wont be breaking the law. But yes....alot of meds act the same was as so called illegal drugs.

Besides the obvious differences:
1. Haldol obtained by prescription only, given in pill or injection, is basically a useless drug.

2. Pot unobtainable by prescription in most states, smoked, can become quickly addicting.

I don't believe pot, cocaine, alcohol, tobacco or any other illicit drug as any real 'medical benefits' as you put it.

you are in a lot of pain it sounds like...haldol is an antiphsycotic,..so if you are taking that for something, I sure wouldn't tell you to take coke or meth..Now many people don't know, but many pills they give schizophrenics, has amphetamine in it.the main difference, is that prescription drugs are legal, the others aren't...but they both can harm you in the end..but to think that there are medical benefits from meth or coke, is just wrong...those are extremely terrible drugs that destroy you, not only get you addicted

Street drugs and booze plaster the whole brain. Most psych drugs target specific parts related to your brain cooties. There's a big difference, but yes, street drugs often are self-medicating. It's unfortunate that many don't recognize this and seek appropriate support and meds.
