try Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's by far the best book I have ever read, I'm in love with it ; ) There are two other books in the series, New Moon and then Eclipse which recently came out. They have all made it onto the top of the NY times bestsellers list. In fact, right now I think it is in second place, only the Harry Potter saga is ahead of it. Definitely check it out, let me know if you like it ;)

I would suggest going to the local bookstore and asking them for help. They know the best sellers, and they can ask you about what kind of books you like. The library may be a possibility too.
