You should call him on it anytime he tries lying to someone about it if you do not finish basic you will not be seen as a vet and you will not be entitled to any benefit's and what he is doing is disrespecting people who served and serve today by telling people this lie if he is trying to tell people this lie to get attention and is not healthy and is disrespectful

Being an old retired Sailor, I don't get to say who is and is not a Marine, but if he had joined the Navy, served honorably (however briefly) and been discharged for medical reasons, I'd have no problem with him calling himself a Sailor.

I can certainly say without fear of contradiction that it isn't the length of service that makes a man a Marine. Had your brother died in boot camp (which does occasionally happen) he would have been buried with full honors, as a Marine.

And the Marines always say "once a Marine, always a Marine".

Any Marines care to join in the debate?

No, he didn't graduate boot camp, so technically he hasn't earned the title of US Marine!

In his defense, his discharge was medical, under honorable conditions, so he can't be faulted for not trying. He needs to get on with his life, even though the medical discharge has set him back a bit.

Your brother needs to know that people will respect his call to duty, but in turn, they won't respect him if he persists on carrying out this fantasy.

No it doesn't make him a Marine. Tell he people he talked to that he went to boot camp but got discharged and let them decide.

you're able to desire to be proud to have a brother in the marines. i'm hoping you write to him alot. He needs help from acquaintances and kin. Ask people to write down him a word to assert hi and coach their help. Have an incredible day!

1. Thank your brother for his efforts to serve.
2. If one does not complete 180 days of their enlistment, he or she is usually discharged at the convenience of the government. There is no entitlement of benefits, such as the VA.
3. Check your state's laws. It can also be illegal to impersonate a military member. I recall an incident in WA where an individual was arrested for impersonating a military member.

All the best.

At least he tried. I'd tell him to "cool it: with the "being a Marine " bit.

Although a medical discharge is a discharge under medical conditions,..............asthma???

Let your brother deal with it,unless he directly involves you! If he joined he must have wanted very much to serve.I sure he wanted to make a career in service.Just be there for him.
I say he has the "the heart of a hero, who wanted to be a marine"! He has to come to terms, with being discharged. For something he couldn't help.It was just one of the guidelines they set up.Hopefully,he'll sooner than later.Figure out it,he didn't fail as a man!
Give him time! He'll probably have more than enough people telling him what they think he isn't.Be on his side!

No, I would assume not, he did not graduate for medical reasons.

As to what to do about the situation, I would talk to him about it, he is the one going to look the fool if someone questions him further about being a marine. Not you!
