"only human"?
I don't go to church. Two friends of mine do.Today they learned that their 'minister' submitted his resignation. He did so because he had had an affair with a "female church member" for two years. His wife found out. In fact she caught them together one night when she was waiting for him outside the church. He was taking far too long. So she went inside and caught them together in his office.
Here was a man who supposedly"walked a straight line," always preached a good sermon (usually about adultery), and who was loved and honored by his members.
One of my friends was very upset....not because of his sin, but because he was caught.
She didn't want hin to leave because-
as she put it, (and others also apparently)
"he is only human"
I asked her how she felt about the other woman.
She said the other woman was a tramp.
Go figure.

It was right for him to resign. God has placed him in a position of authority and what he did was wrong. Anyone that is in church with a position and sins this way needs to resign and come to the place of repentance and restoration. He may be only human and can be forgiven not only by God, but also his members and family. Somewhere he got taken hold of by lust and fell into it. We are all capable of this happening to us. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and moving forward, not getting hung up on others problems. No woman is a tramp, she is loved by God also.

He was probably focused on adultery in the pulpit because of his guilty conscious. When someone we feel close to or look up to makes a mistake, we try to rationalize it in order to keep our world on an even keel. It always makes me angry when the man is not treated on the same level as the woman. The woman should have been called only human as well or they both should have enjoyed the tramp label together. Churches are supposed to forgive and accept members who repent and ask for forgiveness but I do agree with his decision to resign. He should not be leading a church if he has such difficulty leading himself; but he should be allowed to remain in the church if he chooses to repent.
As a woman I can somewhat understand expecting the other woman to display more restraint. It is interesting that sometimes women are expected to behave with more morals than men and to have more discipline. But from my point of view I wonder how one woman can betray another woman in such a hurtful way. If they were in church together they were likely friends and this must have hurt even more. It is crazy that we give men more lee way as if they were animals that simply cannot control their passions. If men want to lead they should be good quality.

I wouldn't label him that way, but as an adulterer. He should resign from the ministry, at least for a season to get things right with the Lord, his wife, and the congregation.

He should step down. He has committed adultery. But yes, he is also human. But we have a right to expect a man who is teaching and guiding us to always walk the high road...To whom much is given, much is required....

Because on so many levels, patriarchy is still alive and well in the world.

"Guys will be guys" is the typical saying, but girls will be tramps when they do the same thing.
