I am so sorry that my fellow Buddhists have been pushing their beliefs down your throat. They are well known for such behavior. No, wait- that's not right.

You must live in a very strange place. I've been around this planet for a long time, and in all my born days, I have NEVER had anybody come up to me in a supermarket, or anywhere else, or seen any other person being approached by an a-theist trying to work a "conversion".
On the other hand, I have had dozens and dozens of experiences where some fanatical, pushy, christian fundamentalist, has been standing out in public mouthing off, waving bibles and other literature, and actively trying to foist his or her religious beliefs on to passersby.
The overwhelming majority of a-theists couldn't give a warthog's butt what anybody else thinks or believes. They only demand that people generally acknowledge that "Freedom of Religion", to mean anything at all, must necessarily incorporate freedom FROM religion.
Believe whatever the heck feels right for you, and just get on with it, and leave other people to enjoy the exact same privilege.
I will absolutely acknowledge that there are SOME a-theists who are "over the top" and it seems they aren't really happy unless they can find something else to be protesting about that has even the smallest religious context. These are the minority, and they do the rest of us no credit any more than the Christian religious fanatics do any credit to the overwhelming majority of regular self-declared Christians who do simply go about their lives quietly living according to their particular beliefs. A fanatic is a fanatic is a fanatic, and it doesn't matter which camp he belongs in, it is ignorant, arrogant and toxic to behave in the way that all fanatics do. But it definitely is the "Believers" who are the pushiest and the noisiest, and they are a pain in the tush.

" I can't even go to the grocery store without seeing an Atheist try to "free" me from my "delusion". "
BS. I go to the grocery store several times a week and I have never had an atheist approach me. What are you doing at the grocery store that gets you such attention that atheists come out of the woodwork to "free" you?

Because when religion purports to offer a complete answer to problems of purpose, morality, origins or science, it often discourages exploration of those areas by suppressing curiosity, denies its followers a broader perspective, and can prevent social, moral and scientific progress.
Because of the phenomenon of religious war as one of the more destructive consequences of religious belief. Some argue that these are mostly caused by misinterpretations of the relevant religions' ethical rules and a combination of non-religious factors. These conflicts are among the most difficult to resolve, particularly where both sides believe that God is on their side and has endorsed the moral righteousness of their claims.
Because many people believe they have a religious duty to take "control of a sinful secular society", either by putting fundamentalists in office, or by forcing "holy" law into the secular sphere.

Convert you? I wasn't aware that freeing someone from a crippling delusion was considered "conversion."
Anyway, I hate to rain on your parade but the majority of atheists couldn't care less about your delusions. If you come on an open forum, however, and spout supernatural nonsense, prepare to be corrected.

While I do feel that religion is all about fear and control, I also feel to each their own. Whatever makes you happy. I don't try to convert people, I leave well enough alone. Some of my best friends are christians and we have a grand ole time.

Vindictiveness? If some atheists were vindictive, it must be in retaliation for some bad christian behaviors.
You can believe as you like. It is no skin off my back. There is no god that tells me to witness to you. If you refrain from witnessing to me, I will refrain from answering your questions.

That's odd. Never had an Atheist show up at 6am and preach on my doorstep. I've never seen an Atheist do any of what you mention, yet Christians seem addicted to it.
