Obviously there is a fear that you have of something, enveloping you, and taking over your life, and in a sense, ending it in a moment, and you have no control. Like, being in your car or on a pier, you have no way of really protecting yourself, you're either totally exposed, or contained where you can't get out. This will have to be brought about through conversing with a therapist, and getting to the true reason behind your fear and dreams as a result of that fear. I hope this helps you, even though it is not much information. It simply can not be totally explained without more information. Good luck to you.

Re-occurring dreams happen because there is something in your mind that you are not dealing with, so your brain repeats the dream until you finally get it. I don't know exactly what has happened to you in the past, but you are running away from your problems instead of dealing with them. Since you've been having these dreams since you were young, I would say something traumatic has happened in your childhood? The fact that you always get away could indicate that you have the strength to deal with this, you are just afraid to. The size of the waves indicate that this is a big problem. Goodluck honey. I have been having similar dreams for a long time too, except instead of waves I'm always being chased by men, and i still don't know what my dreams are referring to.

I used to have very bad water dreams too- i used to do lot of swimming when I was younger and my dreams would nearly always take place in a swimming pool. The water would usually be threatening and deep and Id feel in my dream as if it couldnt be trusted. There would be hidden currents or it would just turn out to be dirty in places. I have read hundreds of times that water symbolises emotion and this does tie in with my emotionally turbulent childhood. I am convinced that it really does represent emotion, in the sense that the unconscious mind is most likely to pick this metaphor for it, in most people (but not always, it depends upon the person and their individual mind).

I'm the same. But, I'm usually in a boat and I'm not scared of the water.
I dreamt i was in a boat travelling along and the water was so clear and white it was amazing all i could see was beautiful water.
I asked my friend who interprets dreams and she said the white water represents clear times ahead for me. The reason why i was in a boat speeding Thur the clear water is because my life will be like cruising Thur beautiful water.
I have had a hard time the past 10 years, real hard so I'm looking forward to my dream coming true.
With your dream it seems you are having either confusing thoughts about a major situation in your life. It seems you can't see Thur all the confusing and you feel your situation might overcome you. You want out, but your nervous because you feel overwhelmed.
Stand tall and fight for what you want. Don't worry you won't succumb, you will overcome and there are Crystal clear waters ahead for you just do what you have to and be strong!.

To see a tidal wave in your dream, represents an overwhelming emotional issue that demands attention. You may have been keeping your feelings and negative emotions bottled up inside.
Tsunami
To see a tsunami in your dream, represents that you are being overwhelmed by some repressed feelings or unconscious material that is rising up to the surface. You are experiencing some unhappiness and emotional instability in some waking situation. To hear waves crashing in your dream, indicates tenderness and relaxation. It also brings about feelings of sensuality and sexuality.
To dream that you are caught in a tidal wave, signifies the strength of your emotions, perhaps accompanied by tears that you are holding back in your waking life.
To see muddy, violent waves in your dream, signifies that a fatal error was made in an important decision.
Storm
To see a storm in your dream, signifies overwhelming struggle, shock, devastating loss and catastrophe in your personal affairs. The storm also represents unexpressed fears or emotions, such as anger, rage, turmoil, etc. On a more positive note, the storm signifies the rising of spirit within.
To dream that you take cover in a storm, foretells that whatever disturbance or problems is occurring in your life will quickly blow over. Consider also the phrase "weather the storm", which suggests your ability and strength to withstand whatever comes.
