It may not be a virus that is causing the problem... when was the last time you cleaned the computer? When you computer gets really dusty inside it can cause the fans to stop working and this causes your comp to overheat. When your comp overheats it turns itself off to protect itself from serious damage. Here is a guide to clean out your comp...

well...it's hard to tell, because a virus can hide as a normal system process. the svhost.exe is a popular windows process, a virus could be hiding in one of those. but if you kill the wrong one, windows will not function correctly. Try using a anti virus program like etrust. also are you sure its a virus? or is that just a huge assumption. Maybe your computers fan is a little dusty and needs to cleaned out? or maybe its shot and you should buy a new one? Is your computer overclocked? it could be overheating and shutting down for safety

i could say that it extremely is definitly a hardware project. My first suspicion is that your processor and or RAM are transforming into way too warm. I even have had computers close down on me (quite AMD powered) becuase the processor replaced into getting too warm...that could take place if the processor is overclocked (working at a speedier speed than it replaced into designed to) or if the fan you have isn't doing a sturdy activity. This sounds unusual, yet I even have finished this to objective such problems beforehand. Open up the pc case and objective a field fan (between the enormous ones that could cool an entire room) promptly on the inards of your pc. The fan could desire to be very close to to the pc...in case you prefer, you are able to lay the pc on its ingredient and placed the fan promptly on appropriate of the case. this could cool each little thing down extensively. in the experience that your pc operates with the enormous fan blowing on it, then you definitely be conscious of that something is getting too warm and inflicting the shutdowns.

You should have specified which computer you have, and whether climate is tempered or hot where you do live because a frequent cause of impromptu shut down can be overheating; particularly with laptops. In such case, if ever, all you need to do is to clean it inside; the fan and everything is dedicated to processor cooling, more especially.

Does anything pop up before it shuts down? Is there anything in the event log right before shutdown?

This could be a thermal event - the computer was too hot or had fan problems and it told the operating system to shut down.

It could also be your power transformer is faulty. I've had this with a couple of computers over the years. Its not always a virus etc.
