Buddhists are kind of big on hugs- at least the ones I know. I often hug people whom I just met. More than once, I have had someone tell me later on how much that first hug met to them. I think the world would be a much better place if people hugged more.

FANTASTIC!!! ((((((((HUGS!!!!))))))))

Bahá'í Faith

Male/male and female/female hugs are great, the more the merrier! It's male/female hugs that we usually abstain from, although some m/f do exchange hugs. I've been the recipient of a man who came to hug me when saying goodbye, and I reciprocated warmly. It would have been awkward and kinda cold to resist, and it was obvious he meant it from the heart.

He is the only Bahá'í man I've ever hugged, as I'm most comfortable with keeping the protocol of fem/fem affection. It's most appropriate that way.

Many Bahá'ís in my community are Persian, although certainly not all of them are. Usually, not always but usually, in Persian culture, men and women do not hug unless they're married, but m/m and f/f hugs and kisses are warmly exchanged. (Cheek kisses, y'all.) However, the guy who hugged me was Persian. I think he was either born here or came here as a young child, 'cause he had no Persian accent, so he was clearly American.

The bible says it is not good for a man to touch a woman unless they are husband and wife. If you friend is the same sex as you are then hug away.
