Hello, what you may need to start doing is stretching off the Calf muscles around the back and the side of the lower leg. These are the Gastrocnemius, Soleus and Peroneals. You can do this by pushing against a wall having one leg stretch out and locking out the knee so you feel a mild stretch down the calf. Running gait is particularly important as any type of collapsing of the foot arch can cause pain, discomfort and injury. Pain is the body's way of saying something is wrong, so it may be worth doing the stretching on both legs 3 times over and holding for a stretch of 30 secs with the stretch intensity somewhere around a level 7-8 on a scale of 1-10. Ensure when your foot strikes the ground the outer edge of your foot strikes first and make sure you are wearing the appropriate trainers. I am a Corrective exercise personal trainer, so I would be more than happy to help further with this. I am based in North England and have access to all the gyms as my company www.fitnessagents.co.uk provides PT's to many of the leading health chains nationwide. Hope the advice helps, it should do. Andy

You may well have snapped just a few fibres of tendo-Achilles. this is not an uncommon injury and can occur with very little trauma. get your GP to check it. A very minor tear needs little treatment, more severe tears can need surgical repair.
