Here's the thing. ALL breeds bite and attack, it's just that a Labrador attack doesn't get reported like a pitbull attack.
For every Pitbull that bites, there are 1 million that don't.
Pitbulls kill 3 children a year. 2000 kids a year are killed by their own parents!!
The news companies have learned that pitbull attacks get attention, so they report them.
There are times when the news says it's a pitbull that attacked and it was some other similar looking breed.
Pitbulls have a bad rep, but they are no worse than any other breed. I have been bitten many times in rescue, but never by a pitbull.

The thing is, honey:

This happens with ALL breeds of dogs. It's just, when a chihuahua does this, they can't do as much damage. Pit bulls are extremely powerful dogs, and while most are wonderful pets, if they turn against something (whatever it may be) the dog is very likely to come out on top in a physical fight. The problem is, pit bulls have that reputation as being "evil monsters" so if one even lunges at a person, they're automatically crucified by the media.

As always, the media isn't telling the whole story. 98% of the time, dog attacks are due to human fault. Whether the owner not training it properly from a young age or the person who was attack doing something to upset the dog. Don't ever believe you're hearing the whole story in ANY newscast no matter what the subject.

A labrador retriever in my neighborhood (lived in house with kids and was always very friendly towards people and other animals) attacked another dog while out on a walk for no apparent reason. These random attacks aren't linked to any one breed. Don't let these people fool you by only posting the pit bull ones.

Because of poor breeding, poor genetics, irresponsible breeders. There are some breeds that were created strictly for fighting. Sadly, they are dangerous no matter what and they probably should not exist. It's a case of man messing with nature. Pit Bulls derive from a few fighting breeds or at least aggressive breeds. While they genetically are not predisposed to attack humans, with indiscriminate breeding and those on the dark side of breeding to fight, there are far too many of the dogs now that are simply not trustworthy and can honestly turn at any time. Some it would take provocation, others it will not.

It would be wonderful if we knew what ones would be dangerous to humans and what ones would not and then we could just selectively breed for the 'nice' ones, but that isn't going to happen and anything resembling a Pit Bull will pay the price for those few that man has made untrustworthy.

Well, you heard the officer say this dog had probably been let loose by someone who fights dogs.

It is common knowledge that Pitts can be bred and trained to be animal aggressive, as can other dogs, but they are so powerful that they can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. After all, they were originally bred to bait bulls, then bears, then dogs. Hence Pitt bulls.

They also need a lot of training and require someone knowledgeable about the breed and strong enough to handle them.

I refuse to buy into the argument that they are a "bad breed".
There are just too many people breeding them for the wrong reasons and a lot of naive owners who do not know enough about them.

I had a dog who was almost killed by a Shepard mix in a dog park.

There bred from puppy mills and back yard breeders who dont care about genetics and will breed a dog know with bad behavior with others and will case them to go nuts if set off. And that any breed. That's why its so important to buy from breeders and give any dog corrective training. We had a lab that used to take the mail man to the side of the house because he has hurt/abused by a person in a similar uniform. Something that person did that dog did not like, there's more to the story then he just did it, some dogs where born with a genitics and will freak out when certain things are done.THATS ANY DOG.

seems that particular dog wasn't socialized with other animals.
owners fault again, each dog attack has the same thing in common not trained or socialized properly.
each case is different sometimes a dog is provoked or attacks out of fear. Thing is Pit Bulls are not the only breed of dog that have bad owners. This could be any breed, you just won't see it on the media!

It's a shame that a distinguished breed like the Pit Bull has been breed and are being used to fight. They are normally extremely friendly dogs but can turn on a penny under the right circumstances. I fear that this breed will be resigned to the extinct list before long.

Did you hear about a new story, happened like 2 days ago. Family all sitting around watching TV, and suddenly the family pit bull just attacks the little boy and kills him. Right in front of the family, they couldn't stop it and he killed the little boy. What is the deal with these dogs? How does that happen? I too am changing my thoughts about them.
