Lincoln/Mercury has NO new ones in WHOLE country. After market doen't supply what I need, either. Adjustible ones do NOT work!!! Bought one from Summit Racing and sent it BACK! Salvage yards around Kansas City, MO, USA are of no help, either. Am DESPARATE for this part! Finally got car to GO, now need to be able to get it to STOP! GREAT dollar value and even more sentimental value in this car. Thanks for any REAL help you can give me. belle @};-

The existing Proportioning Valve has stripped thread and leaks like a SIEVE!!!! THAT'S why I NEED another. ;)

I've been told that retapping it could cause it not to "seat" correctly and that the leak will become Worse. True or False?

THX for the Inline Tube info! They're closed on weekends, so I'll have to wait until the work-week starts to try them. BTW: they have a website I'm checking out at the moment. It's: http://inlinetube.com/

WWW.TEXASERICK.COM states that he is an AIR CONDITIONING Specialist. Does he also carry other types of parts?

Thanks to all who took the time to answer me.

Sorry, I got busy with "Life Happens" and totally forgot about the fact that I asked this question. There are some good answers here.

However, I did find another 88 Cougar like mine in a salvage yard. Got the proportioning valve off it along with close to a thousand dollars worth of other parts including all "new" UNrusted skin.

Did you try Ford, it's the same as the Thunderbird, also check out wrecking yards, lots of old Tbirds there.

Another good source is Ebay.com

You may be "barking up the wrong tree".

I've never had a proportioning valve go bad. That's not to say they don't.

What makes you think your's is bad??
It may be the master cylinder, or swelled flex lines at the front wheels.

why can't you have the valve tapped and rethredded and use some adapters to hook the lines up to it?
