Well everytime someone asks me
if my tatoos are pericings hurt
i always tell them
" Im not going to lie to you, a needle going threw your skin, it does hurt! "
But as far as pain goes, ive never had my septum peirced but i almost did, the pain depends on weither you do it the easy way and have it peirced threw the little piece of skin or you get it peirced threw the actual cartilage, and i would have gotten it done threw the skin because it would heal faster, less pain and easier to put in!
My upper ear, which is cartiliage stung a little but it wasnt anything unbearable, but if i rolled over on it while sleeping you bet i woke my *** up and rolled back over! I love my upper ear pericing tho ive had it for a couple years now and it doesnt close up if i keep it out for a long time. I think it was worth it! On the scale i would say about a 5?
Not bad, but not painless
Out of all my peircings that i have, my eyebrow, lips, libre, nose, ears and belly button, i would say that the LIPS hurt the worst, i also have thick lips tho also! it did hurt a little bit, and sucked as far as healing because i couldnt really eat anything , i didnt want to get it infected nor did i want to chomp on my lip! I actually do not have them in anymore because i am not allowed to wear them at work, and i had to let them close because i had to take it out while i was working, and had to break the skin back open after work, it was too painful to do everyday so i just took it out perminantly, and it didnt really leave me with a scar but if i put my tongue behind my lips you can see where it was peirced so they wont damage your face if you ever decide you dont want them, it just didnt work out for me, but the pain was probably an 8 on the scale, the pain subsided after a day or two so i guess it could have been more painful, i suggest when/if you get them put some ice on them before you eat, when theyre freshly peirced just in case you accidently bite on the,, theyre a lil numb so it wont hurt as bad if you do bite your lip or the ring !
And for the pericing by yourself question, i peirced my eyebrow, nose and belly button myself! because theyre a little easier, but peircing your lips and libret i got done because it was too hard to peirce by myself. but i pierce them all with a 14 gauge needle with some help of ice and a washclothe. As far as infection goes, make sure you just use a new needle, and youll be fine, because tattoo places can peirce you but its UP TO YOU! to keep it clean , its not thier fault if it gets infected, so thereful no matter which you do, peirce yourself or get it peirced you will still be responsible for the cleaning, so thast why i just peirced the ones that werent too complicated and didnt have any major viens or anything, like the tongue, i would never peirce that, or my privates by myself! but some are just skin!? so just make sure you keep them clean! Saline solution worked great for all my peircings, i think people use it to clean thier contacts, so no alcohol, because it will dry out and may start to flake, or get dead skin around it or make it red, ewww, but that saline solution really worked for me nicely! you can get it at like CVS, walgreens, rite aid.
&& also, ignore any answers that might say
dont get those pericings, or why would you that to yourself.. etc. its your body do what you want, it sounds like i have a lot but honstly it even out nice to where i didnt look like a total metal face but i love my peircings! Hope this helps at all

I had a lip piercing about two years ago and I've had upper ear piercing, and my nose is pierced. No they don't hurt. They are all like getting your ear pierced. Its mostly in your mind. If you think its gonna hurt really bad, it just might because thats what you are telling yourself. DO NOT do them yourself. You could get a severe infection or do it wrong. That isn't the smartest thing to do. Go to a professional. Thats the best way. But as I said, none of them really hurt. They make sure to numb them pretty well before doing it.

I had mine pierced years ago and although it didn't really HURT it was a strange sensation. They mark the tongue, as to where to pierce it at. Then they will clamp it with a pair of hemostats. They will tell you to take a deep breath in and to exhale and when you exhale they push the large hollowed out piercing needle through your tongue. I got really warm afterward and kind of went into shock, I walked outside the shop to get some fresh air and puked. I puked just once and once I did I felt totally fine. The healing process is what hurts when you get your tongue pierced. It will swell up, as I'm sure you know. It will be really hard to eat until the swelling goes down and you have to be avid about keeping it clean. You do NOT WANT YOUR TONGUE TO BECOME INFECTED!!! Rinse your mouth out with Listerine often!! After you eat, drink (anything besides water), or smoke (if you do). Your tongue is the fastest part of your body to heal. Actually anything inside your mouth, heals faster than anything else. You should be feeling the swelling going down in a few days afterward and by the time a week passes you should be pretty good and healed. The downside to having your tongue pierced is that it WILL DAMAGE YOUR TEETH. You may even notice that the top and bottom balls on the barbell will irritate the roof of your mouth and under your tongue. I had mine for about three years and then it suddenly started really irritating the roof of my mouth and under my tongue, so bad that i FINALLY just took it out. Good Luck :)

I can't relate to the rest of the piercings but I do have both of my upper ears pierced and by that being cartliage, yes it does hurt. It's hard to sleep for about a week and then you get used to them being in your ears. As far as the piercing yourself, I wouldn't reccomend it b/c there are alot of infections involved in the process. So go to a professional for all of your piercings. Better to be safe than sorry.

FYI ANYTIME YOU SHOVE A PIECE OF METAL THROUGH YOUR BODY IT WILL BE PAINFUL.
IT REALLY HURTS IF CALTILAGE IS INVOLVED THIS HURTS EVEN MORE.
DID YOU EVER PUT A PIECE OF METAL THROUGH YOUR SKIN? THAT'S HOW IT HURTS.
SINCE PEOPLE FEEL PAIN DIFFERENTY, I CAN'T GIVE YOU A SCALE.
