"Dry" means it's not sweet.

Although every wine maker uses the word to mean "not sweet", they have different ideas about how much sweetness is not sweet.

champagne is the name of a sparkling wine from the region in France of the same name. Other sparkling wines from France and other countries, including the US, are not really champagne, but more correctly referred to as sparkling wines. While several kinds of grapes can be used to make sparkling wines, the degree of sweetness can be determined by both the grape (as in muscato) or the amount of sugar that could be added to the fermentation process. In the US, "extra dry" often refers to sweet, although other sweet sparkling wines can go by asti or demi-sac. Brut, blanc de blanc, or blanc de noir are all usually dry, meaning that they have little or no residual sugar in the wine and leave a dry feeling in the front of the mouth, usually to reflect the acid in the wine itself. Sparkling wine can also have flavors of apple, cream, or toast depending on the vinification process.

Dry is less sweet than regular - so it all depends on taste preference. I like Brut champagne - light and dry.

It's spelled champagne. The difference is that regular chamagne is sweeter tasting.

"dry" or "brut" champagne is less sweet. If you WANT sweet look for moscato, prosecco, or demi-sec.
