A low fat diet is not a good way to lose weight. Read "The Fat Fallacy" by Dr. Will Clower. It may sound logical that if you eat less fat, you will be less fat but that is not how the body works. The mitochondria in the cells needs fat to burn energy. A low fat diet gives you a sub-optimal metabolism. You need to aim for a regular (not high) amount of fat in your diet, but decrease the overall calorie amount.

The mainstream nutrition community is not going to tell you this because they are extremely slow in incorporating new scientific research. It took about 20 years for the mainstream nutrition community to acknowledge that the Atkins diet does what it does.

It depends upon how many calories you are taking in. For weight loss, 1200-1500 calories daily is ideal with 30% of it to be fat grams, which would be 50 grams daily or lower.
Watch your calorie count during the day. Decide how many you want to take in and then divide it by 30%.

low fat diet is not a smart thing to do - your body needs healthy fats that come from things like fish, avocados, olive oil, flax seeds etc.
all you eat (even plain oil) is being converted into energy and only if not spent its gona be stored in fat reserves - you can gain weight eating only fruit and veggies if you consume more calories than spend during the day.
