I know the feeling, you want to get ur air rifle out and shoot it from 20 yards dont ya heh heh.
trust me I have wanted to do this a number of times to a big ginger tom that terrorises my 2 cats. I have found it numerous times in our garage attacking one of our cats, one time it was so bad, our cat was screaming in the garage and we heard her in the house. I went out there and the tom shot off and our cat was cowering behind an old TV in there.
no one in the neighbourhood owns this cat as I have spoken to them all, so as far as im concerned its a stray. I would love nothing more than to be rid of it, buts its so hard to get as it a quick fooker.
best bet is to call the RSPCA and let them deal with it. maybe you could temp it into the house with some food and shut it in the kitchen. then give them a call and they will come round.

Killing something and killing something humanely are two very different things. A .177 air rifle is not humane on something as large as a cat. Did he ever think of just putting out cat food? Chickens are hard work and a cat usually won't go after them if there's cat food out...especially if there's a rooster around. I know dozens of farmers, almost all of them have chickens (some with roosters, some without), and almost all of them have stray cats around. They simply put out cheap cat food for a penny a day, the cats hang around and kill mice and rats, maybe even scare away a coon or two, get fed by the farmers, and everyone is happy. I've never even heard of one of the cats going after one of their chickens.

Killing any animal is cruel and should never be done. Just because it's a stray, does not mean it is "vicious" "scabby" or an "evil beast". My dog used to be stray, he was kicked out of his previous home, be he was rehomed with us. Many animals are rehomed after being strays, some don't. And, how do you know these cats are strays anyway? Cats usually do whatever and go wherever they want. We have cats down my road that kill voles and sparrows and leave them in our garden, and also mess too but that's just what cats are like. If you feel they are strays, contact the RSPCA, do not act upon capturing them yourself, it could be someone's pet you are killing.

This 'beast' could be owned.
At the worst, have it captured and put up for adoption. I don't feel anyone has the right to kill domestic animals they don't own that don't attack people and aren't a food species being raised for market.
You could be opening yourself up for legal problems by going off the deep end in regards to a cat who is acting like a cat. Animal services are there to take care of problem animals, why not do the decent thing and call them?

your the evil beast!!,how could you even think that, i suppose you would really like to do it for fun,! and as long as a few cat haters say its ok you would be happy to kill the cats, well i have three of the vicious scabby evil things as you put it, oh and just to let you know cats are very clean, two of mine were strays, but not now, i look after them well. i wouldnt be with out them, plus most cats go out at night and do that, doesnt mean there stray.

I'm not going to argue the toss on the morals of this one, I just want to say DO NOT shoot it, with an air rifle or anything else unless you are very sure you are a good shot. It's very easy to hit a small animal non fatally, then it will run away and die very slowly and painfully, which I don't think is a good result.
Even if it is feral, and doesn't want human friends, doesn't mean it ought to die, it can be moved elsewhere if it bothers you that much (if you are going to capture it anyway, why not then just drive away from your home and let it out? problem solved, no death.)

How do you know it's obviously stray? Just because it doesn't like you? For Gods sake, I'm not a stray and I wouldn't like you if I thought you were going to have me put down for annoying you. Call the RSPCA, they'll take it away and give it a good home.

Maybe it has realised with that nasty attitude you deserve it pooing in the garden and howling all night. If you have any shred of decency left call the RSPCA and let this poor cat escape from you.

Aw, sounds like you have a soft spot for this guy. He obviously does for you - he's decided he wants to join your family! Leaves you presents and tries to impress in his cat-like way.
So you are a cat hater. Here is your chance to change.
Start making friends with him. Begin by giving him scraps of food in return for the hunts he is sharing with you.
Finally you can adopt him and neuter him and enjoy the strange course your relationship took.

Yes it's illegal.
If your sure it's stray call the cats protection league. They will catch it and keep it for the rest of it's life if it can't be rehomed.
However it could well be someones pet so be careful.
