It is really getting on my nerves. I've tried opening new pages, closing and opening my current one, and other things, but nothing works. I can still erase letter by letter, but that's all. Does anyone know the problem?

Go to Tools -> Options
Click the Edit tab
In this dialog box make sure you have a check in the box "Typing replaces selection"
Click OK to finish.

with the intention to backspace a word out, you are able to desire to placed your mouse cursor on the tip of the word to be waiting to backspace. in case you prefer to spotlight it to do away with a word, i stumbled on that if I spotlight it and click the DELETE key on my keyboard, that looks after it. solid success
