Why is it that even after sources are provided from the Quran to answer this question people pass through it and over-look it as if they WANT to believe that it's true? It seems to me people don't seek the truth , they seek what they want to make reality.. so they can be content with their false misconceptions about Islam..
Am I right or wrong?
"O ye who believe!... [do not] kill yourselves, for truly Allah has been to you Most Merciful. If any do that in rancour and injustice, soon shall We cast him into the Fire..." (Qur'an 4:29-30).
"The blame is only against those who oppress men with wrongdoing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice. For such there will be a chastisement grievous (in the Hereafter)" (42:42).
And this is for all religions, because no matter what religion is spoken of... people decide that they can say what they want about anyone without knowing anything.
Do people need to be more open minded?

By the way, this promise is for the Martyrs who die in an actual war for an actual cause.. by the hands of another.. not by taking others lives for no reason, and not by taking their own.

Anthony-Osama is anything but a Muslim.. We dont consider these radicals Muslims, they are hypocrites and the least knowledgable about Islam. They just need an excuse for what they are doing and im surprised to see people using his words as justification for their answers. How about you look up those verses and their true context and stop copy n pasting random verses.

First of all suicide is 'haraam'( illegal) in Islam & suicider will go to the hell irrespective of one's good wrks prior to that. bombing uses firearms & Islam does not allow use of firearm to kill even the one who deserves death sentence b coz of one's worst crimes against humanity too. Allah ONLY has right to give the punishment of fire to anyone, never a human being for any reason , even in a war. And killing oneself by firearm is double crime & killing oneself by firearm to kill others including innocent people is triple or multiple crime, I can say with commonsense. That person will go to the hell. There is no question of that fellow going to heaven & getting HOORS( virgins of heaven ) impossibility. I don't know how people distort quranic verses & hadiths(sayings of Propht Muhammed(pbuh)) so badly which is itself a great crime against humanity misleading masses. That's why in religious principles related confusions I say everyone to crosscheck it many times with many competent clerics & scholars before finally guiding others as this is a greatly delicate matter. By misguiding many innocents will become criminals of top order innocently & misguiding personality will definitely go to the hell, being anti Allah. I repeat that always have at least socond opinion about religion related confusions if you are not expert. May Allah gude all of us & make the whole world free from all evils & make the whole world completely peaceful , livable with truth, honesy , justice for all & top humanity.

I'm a Muslim and there is no such thing as 72 virgins anywhere in the Qur'an or the Hadith. The first time I heard this was from the American media. I tell you this is simply a stupid myth. It's negative propaganda against Islam. Plus Islam doesn't talk about suicide bombers, in fact anyone who kills innocent life including his own is in no way a martyr. In the Qur'an it says that God doesn't like any aggressors. So the BUSH administration, The ISRAELI government and the suicide bombers are all terrorists. Peace..

The exact number is not Mentioned in the Quran for many things, for example prayer, fasts...
But this does not mean a number was not given by the prophet (PBUH), otherwise there would be confusion. Therefore the Hadith can be used as sources.
Here is one Islamic Literature that shows Number of virgins, how this is used, only those who may use it know best.
72 VIRGINS?
Hadith (Islamic Tradition) collected by Al-Tirmidhi (died 892 CE [common era*]) in the Book of Sunan (volume IV, chapters on The Features of Paradise as described by the Messenger of Allah [Prophet Muhammad], chapter 21, About the Smallest Reward for the People of Paradise, (Hadith 2687). The same hadith is also quoted by Ibn Kathir (died 1373 CE ) in his Koranic commentary (Tafsir) of Surah Al-Rahman (55), verse 72: "The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]'."

It's very interesting that you should ask this. You see I have been visited by many Muslims in the spirit and they all seemed to be very perplexed, anxious and upset. When I asked why this seems so they replied back to me that there is indeed 72 virgins awaiting their emanate arrival but they where all daughters a dogs and swine. Sorry pal, you should read the brochure before you book your trip.

Seriously, the most popular question on Islam these days is about the 1-72 virgins....
And it doesn't matter how much you, I and other Muslims try to explain.... it never seems to get through to them!
It makes me want to pull my hair out at all the stupidity!

Would you give me the source of the 72 virgins? Is it the Qu'ran (I can't find it), a hadith, sacred tradition or just hopeful anticipation that after being screwed on earth, kingdom will come?

Religion is all about what people want to believe, doesn't matter which religion. People should be more concerned with the truth.

the fact is that this is what is told to these suicide bombers to get them to do what they do.
Japanese Kamikazi pilots were told much the same thing about going to paradise and such (minus the virgins)
