➔ Immigration
My thoughts: Legal immigrants are an invaluable asset to the continuing prosperity of the United States. I think we should welcome anyone, from any country, who wants to come here, and become a legal citizen. Illegal immigration is not good for the US, and it is oppressive to the people, and the economic independence of Mexico.

I simply feel that it takes a nation to create aliens and alienation. We're all brothers and sisters. The only aliens are ETs and I'm sure they're our mates as well. It's better to cope with world problems then try to hide. "Where ya gonna run to, all on that day?"

I am not sure how to feel about this issue. I know that a boarder fence isn't going to do anything. I think that Mexican politicians are run by big corporation just as the U.S. politicians, so will ultimately not be helpful to their poor. I do know however that in my local newspaper today there was an interview with local peach growers. They stated that there are many fields of peaches not being picked and the fruit is rotting on the trees. What a waste. I don't know why communities can not get their act together and help these farmers out, maybe for a portion of the peaches or something. What a waste of food! The process of legally obtaining workers from Mexico has been a failure on the part of bureaucracy. The workers are not able to arrive to the fields on time and the opportunity to work for farmers other than their documented employers part time to make extra money is now illegal. It is a BIG mess for both the farmers and the workers. The policies are hurting mostly the small farmer and the documented workers.

If you come to this country and do what it takes to become a LEGAL citizen or maintain a legal valid visa, then WELCOME.
If you just want to come here and make better money and have a better life, but do it all for free and maintain your allegiance to a country that offers you no hope for a better life, then go back and give them your allegiance.
It is not fair for some to come illegally and stay illegally when others come and do what it takes ot be here in a legal fashion.
And I am not going off on an uneducated "Learn English" tangent-- although English would be nice.
I just think that wherever you decide to live, whatever country it may be and whatever nation of origin you come from, if you are going to that country to make a better life then do what it takes to be there legally and help that country continue to be a place people seek to go to because it is "better". Don't say you are going to a new country because you think it is better and then still fly the flag of the "old country" and proclaim it is to maintain your heritage.
As far as the part where the Mexican President is "mad" at the US and disappointed-- GIVE ME A BREAK!!! If he would take care of the issues of corruption and poverty in his own nation (hm, sounding scarily like our leaders), then maybe people would want to live there and feel they have a chance to make their country a better place to be.

I think Calderon speaks with a forked tongue, while he is angry at the United States for daring to try to contain illegal immigration and any harm it may do to our country, Mexico has one of the best catch and deport systems ever and a zero tolerance. Double standards to say the least.
"In a meeting in his Los Pinos residence, he promised to help Arellano obtain a visa for the United States." I would love to know how Calderon plans to fulfill that promise.

I find the article hilarious. I find it incredible that Mexico could demand that the United States' enforcement of immigration laws should not be "unilateral" and even more ridiculous that they demand we treat illegals like royalty when they treat their own illegals (from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador) like cattle. It is appalling that Reuters would so blithely ignore these facts when accusing the United States of some kind of wrongdoing.

I think we need to have a exchange of illegal immigrates with Mexico. We meet at the border and exchange illegals, we have say 10 million Mexican illegals, and Mexico has, never mind the Mexican government doesn't allow illegals of any kind in their country, so the exchange can not happen

I know it doesn't sound fair to the Mexicans who really do respect us and try to keep our laws - but I think we need a freeze on any and all Mexican immigration, at least for 30-40 years to see if their attitudes on America being "theirs" changes any. And, in many of our border states, they are already over-represented and we need to start giving other people time to make an influence on states like California, etc.

And where in the Laws of Human Nature, does it state that we have to care for another country's poor? We can't even take care of our own poor!
As an United States Citizen, that article makes me mad as hell! He doesn't want to piss off his constituents, so he says what they want to hear - not to mention save his government billions by exporting his poor to us. And then his country stands to get billions imported back into the nation by those very same illegal immigrants.
Gee, like it's so hard to see through that facade. . .

I don't care or mind what they do over there in Mexico. Hey, they are trying to make changes here in the US regarding immigration. It's not hurting us (me) . . . .

That's nothing new. The last president did the same. Why would they want to try to reform their own economy and make Mexico a better nation when they can ship them off to the US by the droves and have US dollars sent back by illegals. Come on! The Mexican government is making money off us. Of course they support the crashing of our borders.
