HOW?!?

although i realize that it is in fact only a US temperature factor, i must also point out that around that time temperature monitering around the world was incredably limited, and does not encompass the same lands as it does now.
but also youll notice a rise in temperature in the graphs you love so much after the soviet union fell and they shut down most of their temperature monitering stations. since russia is a large and cold place, that it would have SOME impact on global temperature as a whole.

Read the "Grapes of Wrath" it is a good illustration of the dust bowl years of the 30's. If you don't read then there is the movie of the same name in the classics section.

The hottest year on record for the earth is 1934? 99.99% of the world's scientists in 1400 believed the earth to be flat. That did not make the belief right. Also where did you get 99.9% figure? I think you got your numbers wrong. IThe evidence all points to global warming being a hoax. Why does the avg education level of a global warmist only about 11.1 meaning on avg. they did not even complete high school??? Explain why the 98% of the ice sheets on both poles are increasing not decreasing as commonly believed. Please do NOT make up statistics to fit your belief. Thank you
Sorry to disappoint the poster below but your statistics were just recently discredited. The hottest year on record is 1934. Your dates on based on data which was manipulated to get the results the global warmists desired. In fact the true research by an unbiased panel of scientists found that the difference in Earth's temperature from 1997-2006 compared to 1930-1939 was scientifically so small that it was for all intents and purposes about the same. 1934 was however the hottest although the difference was so insignificant to be meaningful.

Global warming doesn't just mean warmer weather. It also means we'll see more instances of extreme warm weather, often in the form of heat waves.

U.S. heat waves are generally defined as at least three consecutive days of temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit — and they’re dangerous, particularly in areas less accustomed to hot weather. In the past several decades, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says extreme heat has become more deadly than hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, floods and earthquakes — combined. From 1979-2003, some 8,015 deaths in the United States were attributed to excessive heat. In 2001 alone, excessive heat exposure caused 300 fatalities.

It was only the warmest in the US. The global temperature record (averaged over the whole Earth) is very clear:

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/new_Fig.A.lrg.gif

Weather can vary from place to place and year to year. But, over the long run, over the whole Earth, warming is very real.

Did you actually think 99+% of the world's scientists are stupid?

Care to cite your sources? - I'll be flabbergasted if they're not blatantly biased on every aspect of global warming.

EDIT - johndoe3214 - People worthy of the name "scientist" have not believed the Earth was flat for over 2000 years. After Eratosthenes measured the diameter of the Earth a few hundred BC, "scientists" accepted the data. Only ignorant "skeptics" who ignored the data thought the Earth was flat in 1400.

The ten hottest years on record globally are as follows...

2007 - 14.763°C*
2005 - 14.759°C
1998 - 14.713°C
2002 - 14.683°C
2003 - 14.666°C
2006 - 14.655°C
2004 - 14.596°C
2001 - 14.568°C
1990 - 14.485°C
1995 - 14.463°C

* The value for 2007 is calcualted using the data for the eight months from Jan to Aug, if it's excluded from the list then all entries move up one place and 1999 enters the list in tenth place with a temp of 14.458°C.

The global temps for the 1930's are as follows...

1930 - 13.967°C, 69th hottest year
1931 - 14.023°C, 55th hottest year
1932 - 14.024°C, 51st hottest year
1933 - 13.887°C, 87th hottest year
1934 - 14.049°C, 46th hottest year
1935 - 13.919°C, 80th hottest year
1936 - 130.17°C, 56th hottest year
1937 - 14.119°C, 34th hottest year
1938 - 14.149°C, 27th hottest year
1939 - 13.982°C, 63rd hottest year

This decade is the hottest on record with an average global temp of 14.631°C, the hottest decade based on a full ten year data set is the 1990's with an average temp of 14.401°C. The average temp in the 1930's was 14.015°C.

Figures are my own analysis of the Global Historical Climate Network data (GHCR) from 1880 to present, they match almost exactly with the NASA Gistemp record which can be found here http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata/GLB.Ts.txt

Its very simple. The hottest year IN THE US on record was 1934. Not the entire world.

Of course, the "skeptics" tha tkeep saying that are just showing their own ignorance--they are too uneducated to realize that the US covers less than 1.5% of the Earth's surface.

It was only in the US, in all actuality the abnormal warmth in the US during the thirties was more than likely caused by anthropogenic related albedo changes because of huge areas of failed crop lands. A severe drought was created by a combination of mainly, rapid increase of solar activity and to a lesser degree, poor agricultural related practices.

It is a big problem. What happened in the 1930's was not because of global warming but it is a what you call a prevue of what will happen now to the entire planet becuase of the global warming.

Bob...who says 99.9% of the world's scientists agree? I see that figure a lot but I guess maybe if one has been considered a scientist and does not agree, he/she is no longer a scientist?

I have read of a large number who seemed to be scientists, and disagreed, and were shushed, denied publishing, or slandered.

Perhaps there is some hyperbole among the GW pushers?

I think 99.9% of scientists and politicians and big businessmen who benefit economically or socially from Global Warming agree!!
