Well, First, the problem with saying you can have a boyfriend as long as it is not serious is that things can go from just spending time hanging out to serious really quick. I think 16 is a okay time to start dating. Maybe group dates at 15 and 16.

It depends on the kid, Is him or her a responsible, and truthfull kid. The bf or gf would have to be the same. I don't have kids so i'm uncle to 2 teenage girls. oldest is 15 and the other just turned 13. the oldest I would let her have a bf, she is smart, and knows what she wants for her life. The younger is boy crazy, I pick her up from school and i'ts jimmy did this and bob did that , I really like shaun, in machine gun style. My sister inlaw is a very strict very religious person and she will ok bf at 16, but the grades and her pants have to stay up. The younger one will probably be pregnant at 15.

No. Serious has nothing to do with it because IF they have a bf or gf, serious can happen whether you want it to or not.

My parents wouldn't let me date until I was 16 and then it wasn't an every weekend thing, only once in a while. My parents understood that I was still too young to make wise decisions and could be easily swayed by others and I'm thankful for their wisdom.

any parent who thinks their CHILD who has a boyfriend or girlfriend before the age of 18 hasn't had sex yet is FOOLING THEMSELVES!!!!! Why do so many parents walk around with BLINDERS on---have they FORGOTTEN what they were like when they were 14-18???? Obviously!!!!!! My son was 15 when I DISCOVERED he was having sex... (remnants in the trash can in his room that he did NOT hide)... All we can do as parents is LET THEM KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS, and hope that they are sensible enough to PROTECT THEMSELVES because no matter HOW MUCH WE FORBID THEM TO DO IT, they are still going to go behind our backs and have sex...JUST LIKE WE DID WHEN WE WERE THEIR AGE!!!!!! Actually there are more kids NOW having sex earlier then there EVER were when I was a teenager.. (back before 1968)....... You don't have to ASK them if they are having sex---and they probably wouldn't tell you anyway, but you CAN better prepare them for it by INFORMING them......the more information your kids get, the LESS likely they are to make you EARLY GRANDPARENTS

Actually in my house if you can spell the words "WOULD" and "YOU" and "AIN'T" you are old enough to talk to the opposite sex. If you can construct a proper sentence with the use of adverbs, then you can go on supervised dates.

So, I guess if you were my kid, then no, you would not have a bf or gf - sorry.

Do you mean 'If you had a child, would you let them have a boyfriend or girlfriend before they were eighteen years old?'

The answer to that is - try stopping a determined teenager under 18 having a boy or girlfriend! and why would you want to stop them. That is the way we learn.

I've had boyfriends and I'm just almost 18, but it really depends on the person and how old they are. If you trust your children to make the right decisions about people, give them the freedom to.

I am 14, so of course I don't have a kid...lol. But, I have never had a boyfriend, but my parents don't care if a have one, it is just how far the relationship gets. if you are asking this question because you have a kid than it is better to say that they can have because if you say that they can'e than they are more likely to do bad things.
