Okey dokey, I have a question.
Adultery is a sin. Blasphemy is a big sin. Sex without marriage is a sin. There are countless others, but those will do for now.
Why do you not lobby for adultery, public blasphemy, and people who live to together (in sin) to be illegal?
Why is it that those are sins, but not lobbied for like you do for anti-abortion laws and for keeping the right of marriage from gays?
Why the double standard? A sin is a sin, right?

You compare the death of an unborn child to sex without marriage? I guess we all have our priorities...........Sin is living our life in the absence of God. I do not believe sin has a degree, however I do think terminating an unborn baby"s life, murdering someone, child abuse, to name a few,go way beyond the realm and scope of sin.

This is actually one of the better questions I've heard in a long time, and quite difficult to answer properly, and God forgive me if I mislead you.
I think, and I hope I speak for the majority of Christians, that something such as abortion is one of the worst acts that anyone can commit in the modern civilized world. Since it's basically equivalent to murder - which is the worst crime commitable in HUMAN terms.
HUMANS have set "levels" to sin. Murder is the highest sin according to ALL humans, I think we can agree on that. Some of the others only Christians have set levels to because nonchristians think it's okay. Gay marriage and adultery is very high up there as well. We don't think lying is THAT bad, but we still believe it's a sin. Depending on if it's a "white lie" or not.
Now we have to think on God's prospective though. God considers ALL sin equivalent - that is, lying is just as evil to him as murder. ALL sin deserves the death penalty IN GOD'S EYES. Not in MAN'S EYES. And in fact, in Old Testament times, people were put to death for most sins (people were put to death for false god worship, deceit, adultery, gay acts - not just murder.)
HOWEVER, since the New Testament, and Jesus' great sacrifice + the current age of grace, he has covered our sin and as such, now, no matter what we have done, we can ask forgiveness and the sin will be forgiven and forgotten.
Today, even if a man has killed 500 people, had sex with 1000 women (and perhaps other men as well, ie, bisexual), and so forth, he can STILL be forgiven by God.
However, this does NOT necessarily free the person from HUMAN judgment. Which can only kill the physical body, and not the spirit. Since we aren't God, we cannot know if a murderer has really repented or not. More times than not, they do not ever repent, and we are forced to execute them for the sake of other humans in society.
I DO believe that if it were known without a shadow of a doubt that the person was redeemed then he could, in clear conscience, be released from prison. This is a very hazy subject because again only God knows a person's heart.
Thus human laws are very important to keep people in check, and I have no intention of implying that prisons should be removed from the earth, not at all.
I pray that what I say makes clear sense... you ask a very good question, and I believe I have done my best to answer it.

Interesting, there are some people who want to do just that. But I'd prefer if we had a secular government that concentrated on protecting people and their property and trying to ensure that society is as fair as reasonably possible. The truth is I think most Christians don't lobby for those things because they seriously have no chance at being made into law. I think to some Christians, abortion is murder and would be considered far worse than adultury, living in sin or blasphemy, which is why they push for anti-abortion laws.

I do not lobby at all. I have an opinion, but the laws on earth are man-made and thus are separate from God's will. While there are times when they coincide, there are obvious times when they are at odds and it will continue to be this way until the Second Coming. I do not presume to tell people how to behave, God has done this and does not need my assistance. If He places me in a position where I can offer a Christian perspective, I obey and explain what I think is right. As far as moral laws, I think that if we choose to vote on issues that affect people as individual then we should do so as a national vote where everyone gets an individual say. I think that with our technology there is no reason we cannot do this. I also have little faith in politicians and do not believe that these issues belong in their hands.

A sin is a sin definitely. There is a tendency to excuse what you do, and condemn what you are not tempted by (human beings are horribly inconsistent). For example, in Romans homosexuality is right next to gluttony--yet we don't see people getting up in arms about gluttony (people can have selective vision). Here's the thing though we are not in a theocracy. The people vote and lobby for what's important to them, and the majority wins and the minority lives with it (the minority in any event gets to express their distaste over the loss). I'm fine with that. I think Christians like everyone else should be entitled to vote their conscience and push for what they want--if they don't win though they should accept it.
But, yes a sin is a sin. Jesus had more to say about pride, religious hypocrisy, and lack of love than just about anything (that doesn't mean that the other things aren't sins--it just means that time would be better spent focusing on our own behaviour and improving).

Sin is Sin to the Lord, but the consequences of the sins is not. All life is sacred to God, if you commit adultery, the Bible says you sin against your own body, not somebody else's. If you abort a child, you have committed murder against another human being. One that can't even defend itself I might add. The word marriage in the Bible is also translated covenant. God takes that very seriously. He destroyed cities because of that wickedness of Homosexuality. Its against nature itself. But to answer your ?? the Bible clearly teaches that a marriage is between a man and a woman, has been that way since the beginning and will be until the end of time. Which is soon by the way!! I hope you are a saved person. If not say this simple Prayer and you can start a relationship with Jesus right now, Dear Jesus, I confess to you that I am a sinner in need of a Saviour, I repent of all my sins and ask you to come into my heart and save me. I believe that you came to earth and died on the cross for me, I believe you rose from the grave the third day to be a perfect sacrifice for me. Please come into my heart and make me one of your children.AMEN. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God. Read your Bible and find a Church. May God richly bless You. In the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN

Sin is Sin. I guess we tend to lobby against what is in the forefront. But the legal system has turned its back on adultery. If there were a law to make it legal, we would be blocking that, too. The reason for the law to prevent Gays from getting married is it is against the Bible. The Bible encourages marriage between one man and one woman. I don't know of any gays that are living together to have been thrown in jail, as neither adulterers in some years. So I don't really see it as a double standard as much as Christians need to see that adultery and fornication laws are inforced.

Yes, a sin is a sin.
James 2:10 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
To me, this says that no matter what sin I commit, I am guilty of committing all of them. So even a "white lie" would be equal with all other sins.
As far as lobbying for certain things, maybe I am mistaken, but I have always pictured "lobbying" to mean that I would set out to bring something to the government to try to make it law. If that is what you are meaning, I don't personally do that.
I do however vote according to my beliefs on things that are already before lawmakers so that my voice would be heard, and I vote for candidates whose views fall in line with my beliefs and views. To me, that is the whole point of a representative government.

A sin IS a sin in God's eyes but God has counseled mankind concerning the EFFECTS of certain sins on us as a people. Certain sins are more exacting such as a "serial killer".
As a people who are suppose to be striving to get closer to God it is counter productive to say that a gay lifestyle is CONDONED by God because this is warping ones relationship with God. It would be more helpful if a person admits that they have a different opinion about a gay lifestyle than God but concedes that God is right. That goes for adulterers, etc. This at least lifts the person out of denial if they claim to be Christian.

Those are valid questions. I'll answer them all for you now.
Your first queston:
Let me make one thing clear. 60% of christians are not Christians. They don't fully follow God's Law. If an individual were to follow God's Law accurately and 100%, you would see a difference, they would be a perfect being. I personally don't rally against abortion, or homosexual marriage because I know people have a free will of choice. I do wish people wouldn't make bad choices but that's going to change one person at a time on a one on one basis, not rally'ing in the streets causes a fight. Christ wants the world reproved of sin and uses a christian as His tool, but also designatd how we are to do this, while telling us it will never fully be done. I also do not condone public blaphemy, lies, fornication or adultry, yet not ignorantly so. I understand why each sin is sin and why it is bad. God doesn't only tell us to know what He says but also why He says it. I do not agree with sin period because sin creates destructon and pain. For instance, when a man and a woman sleep together, they are creating what God calls, "One Flesh". When they are departing from eachother, they are tearing that bond apart. When people sleep around, they continually create and tear apart that bond and in doing so destroy their lives as if they were continually smoking cocaine. When a girl first starts going to college, they can be beautiful. If they sleep around at college, observe them their senior year if they don't get pregnant and drop out, or diseased while suffering and you will see that they are wrecked and have destroyed part of their future. <--- Christ can heal it. So yes, all sin is the same in the eyes of God as well as should be in a christians eyes. But some sin is worse than others. Stealing a car is worse than stealing a pencil, why? Because it causes a greater offense to the person who owned it. Meaning if you steal a pencil, you can just say sorry. You probably won't goto jail, although it was offensive it wasn't completely horrible. Stealing a car can get you beat up or killed and a normal sorry, probably won't stop that from happening. You'll have to REALLY apologize. The level of apology has to be the same level as the offense caused. Same with God. If some christians portray Christ in a bad way, please don't hate Christ. He would not be happy with someone taking his name in vain like that. People shouldn't lobby at all, we christians shouldn't fight for our rights because God told us not to.
Question # 2:
Gay marriage is a tricky one. It's perfectly clear according to the bible that it is wrong. One main reason is because 2 men and 2 women cannot create a child and the point for us existing is to "Bear Fruit" or have children. God destroyed Sodom and Gamorrah because of their sexual immorality and it wasn't just that, it was because their sin caused a hardness of heart. No children were being born... Why should this world exist then? The bible says, "And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart." He was truly hurt about this. God destroyed the world once through water causing the continents to seperate in His fierce wrath by collapsing the sky and erruptng the "waters of the deep". It didn't just rain for 40 days, it was Catostrophic event for 40 days and 40 nights... He said the sexual immorality would happen again and He won't destroy it with water anymore, giving us a rainbow to remind us. Yet, homosexuals have used this symbol mocking God, that He can't destroy them with water anymore. He won't... He said He will do it with fire next time causing the elements to melt in the fervent heat. A christian can lobby against gays till he's blue in the face, but prophesy says it will happen and prohecy WILL BE fulfilled. I have gay friends, I love them as people, yet I do not agree with their sin as I do not agree with anyone elses... Sin is sin... It's not a good thing to think that what someone else does, doesn't effect the people around them. Sin put us in the mess we're in, WORLDWIDE, more of it, is not going to get us out. No double standard here and you had a very good question. Thank you for asking. Take Care! If you have more questions e-mail me. I'll be your personal christian source :)

I'm a Christian and I agree with you. What many Christians do is try to impose the will of God on others.
It is my personal belief that churches that want to teach why not to get an abortion, or to turn down gays asking to be married are totally right and at times courageous for doing so. But I also think that when we are not preaching to the Body of Christ we should leave social issues out of the public forums.
God wants us to evangelize to others, and that's fine. But once someone becomes a believer we have to have faith that they will make good decisions on these issues. If one does not become a Christian than they have every right not to accept our moral guidelines and our beliefs shouldn't be imposed on them.
