She's looking out for your best interests.
You'll need more than physical skills to survive in a trade.
Everything today uses computer skills to plan & design.
Without that knowledge you'll be unpromotable.

You are still very young. Parents want to think that they know best. However, some do and some don't. If I were in your shoes, I would go to college if I could, stay at least two years and try to do a good job learning whatever it is they want to teach. Then, after the time is up, if I want to try something else, I would just tell my parents that this is what I want to do instead of college. In my opinion, that is wrong. People with a good education tend to make more money and have greater satisfaction with what they accomplish than people who just want to hang with their friends in low paying jobs. Besides, if you excel in college you can not only go back to your friends in those jobs, but you may be able to do it as their boss. Whatever you or your parents decide, have a great life!

go to college i was in the same situation i didnt want to go to college after high school so my mom gave me an ultimatum go to school or get out i enrolled but didnt really attend classes, when i did i didnt do the best i could after 1 semester i quit to focus on a trade( automotive repair) i'm doing ok with it since i work for myself but i'm going back to school for computer science and business. Computers are now and the future. Its cool to be able to do what you want for a living buts its not always the best thing to do and thats all your mom is trying to do. When you are younger you dont really see it. I just wished i had finished when i had the chance now I will be a 30 year old freshman. I'm proud of my age just would have rather been done with it by 25

Me, you are only 16, that is not really that old. you know? I don't want to say "your to young to understand" but I do want you to consider your age when you talk to your mom. Instead of fighting with her on the issue, tell her that you will think about her offer to pay for college and that you appreciate her. You still have a couple of years to take her up on her offer. and after that you have to accept what you chose for yourself.
Good Luck! MJ
