Chlorine bleach is no better for cleaning firearms than plain water.
There are many commercial and military surplus weapons' cleaning solutions available that will do a MUCH better job, at not much more cost.
Don't forget to lightly oil all the moving parts after cleaning, either.

thats a really bad idea, it will corrode the barrel quickly. If you want a cheaper gun cleaner, use Eds Red a home made bore cleaner very cheap.
1 Part Dexron Automatic Trnsmission fluid, GM spec D20265 or later
1 part kerosene deodorized, k1
1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits (varsol)
1 part Acetone

Bad Idea....It would make a poor bore cleaner and would result in damage to the finish of your gun, stock etc.

Yes it will eat away the metal, do not use bleach on metal it's like an acid.
