Not sure how long it will take, but it will do you some real good according to Suze Orman it will boost your score. Use it wisely and enjoy. Then secondly, why in the hell are are you renting an apartment, buy a house with a good credit score, silly! There are way too may benfits to list in what home buying can do vs renting. Get a home big enough, then get roomate(s) and charge them the amount of your morgatge (which shoud be considerably lower than rent) and you can then work and save your money for something else like education, large assests or something else oyu dream of.

no credit is as bad as bad credit but all credit is not the same......your father should have advised you to build some savings at your local bank and take out a small loan using your bank account as collateral, then paying the loan off as usual but paying more than the minimum payment a month and then pay it off a month or two early to show you are worth lending money to .....you should have done this several times and at different banks.

Consumer Credit (credit cards) is good to a point but not if you have high balances and are unable to manage them...most people live beyond their means. they(credit card companies) are hoping that you never pay it off that way they make lots of money....

I think Credit Cards are a form of legalized loan sharking, they can ruin your life forever making you unable to get a car loan @ a great rate, buy a home cheaply, insure your car, home, belongings, LIFE (because they check your credit history now)

Authorized user's no longer get the benefit of the good credit history. If your father co-signed a credit card, you could build a credit history. You could also get a secured card.

I'm pretty sure that I just read last week that authorized signers on an account no longer get any credit report benefits. I'm not sure if that has kicked in yet.

Just get him to sign your lease with you.
