need 2 degrees and 5 yrs experience to work in burger king nowadays. is it a case of too many people looking for too few jobs?

Employers will do just that! Require educational accomplishments and experience that really isn't needed. This helps reduce those who would apply., leaving the most ambitious and confident.
it's up to you to show some creativity and determination to get an interview and convince the employer why he should hire you, , even though you may lack some experience and education.
Essentially, you are the first obstacle you fill face in the hiring process.
Other than the obvious, ( If the job is a transmission mechanic and you have no
experience in mechanics) never let the lack of experience or education scare you off.
Show some balls! They respect it.

2 degrees and five years experience that is a joke right? Yes you do need a basic education and be able to present yourself correctly we are talking jobs that any high school kid can get. Beginners positions, if you are having problems getting one of those I would take a long look at yourself. Unemployment is a a record of 4.6% which means there are job out there.

Keep in mind that employers post their ideal. They know they most likely won't get everything. If you have most of the qualifications, especially the super important ones, put your resume in there and see what happens.
