Early mornings are always a bit nippy here. And the hottest part of the year is just beginning. But the days are getting shorter - it happens after the summer solstice.

The days start getting shorter in the northern hemisphere after the solstice on June 21. The day after the solstice, the day is one or two seconds shorter, and the decrease in each successive day's length increases at an increasing rate. The decrease in daylight increases until the equinox, after which the day's length decreases at a decreasing rate.
On September 21, we are losing about 3 minutes per day of daylight. The loss then becomes 2:58 , 2:56, 2:54, etc on the 22nd, 23rd, etc.

The reverse happens at the winter solstice.

If you plot the hours of daylight for every day for a year, it will result in a type of sine curve, with the peak and trough occurring at the respective solstices.

NO, the days never get shorter, we get the same 24 hour cycle. however the hours of sunlight are getting shorter, or the hours of darkness are getting longer. You choose!

yes in the northern hemisphere...

day light hours are getting shorter

night time hours by default are getting longer

and in theory it should soon start getting colder

... but with the weird weather we have been having recently in the UK who knows?
