I have fairly sensitive teeth, and they often mildly ache after eating crunchy foods or snacks (like sunflower seeds), so I use a whitening toothpaste made for sensitive teeth. I brush 3 or 4 times every day. I avoid most snack foods that could do damage, like chips, cookies, pretzels, etc... but I do eat sunflower seeds a lot.

I also like to eat lemons... like, sucking the juice out of lemon wedges. After eating lemons, my teeth feel especially sensitive, and sometimes even *hurt*. I brush my teeth immediately after eating lemons, but they don't feel near as smooth and clean as they do when I brush after having no lemons. The enamel feels strange, and take a few hours to go back to normal.

Do lemons or citrus fruits in general cause harm to your tooth enamel? What can I do or what products can I use to protect my teeth and still enjoy lemons? Drinking lemon juice on it's own is kind of gross, so I don't think that's an option...

Yes, lemons do strip your Enamel on your teeth.

I also have sensitive teeth and started using a newer toothpaste last week call Pronamel by Sensodyne. It's a Anti-Cavity Fluoride toothpaste saying that it "hardens enamel and protects against thte effects of acid wear*.

It's worth the try! I know so far it's really worked for me!

Lemons, as well as pickels, tomatoes, oranges, have lots of acid in them. Acid can wear away enamel and cause your teeth to become sensitive. Brushing with a fluoride toothpaste will help your teeth to remineralize. If you are really concerned about it, try a fluoride rinse. These are great in helping to build back enamel and to prevent against tooth decay. I recomment ACT restoring mouthwash.

YES, SUCKING ON LEMONS = BAD.
WHY?
BECAUSE THIS WILL ERODE THE ENAMEL OF THE TEETH AND MAKE THEM SENSITIVE.
YOU MAY USE SOME TYPES OF TOOTHPASTE MADE FOR SENSITIVE TEETH.
STOP SUCKING ON LEMONS. ONLY BY NOT CONTINUOUSLY EXPOSING THE TEETH TO THE ACID WILL THE DAMAGE STOP.
