A microlight would not be of much help, they are not particularly fast, and they cannot be flown by instruments, which is pretty important in the UK. You wouldnt be able to fly the majority of the year.
It would be much better to get an instrument rating and a light aircraft.
I dont know whats so important, but it would take about 150 liters of fuel and almost 3 hours in even a Mooney. I dont know what your income is, but if you have $100,000 for an old mooney and enough for fuel, then go for it.

Being from the US I am not familier with what the riquirements to qualify an aircraft as a microlight are but I think it is similar to our "light sport" aircraft rules. A 100hp light sport aircraft could cruise somewhere between 90 to 120 miles per hour depending on the design. You would also probably have to figure at least one fuel stop in as well. Hope this helps.

Due to the limitations on airspeed, they probably don't fly very fast. Anyway you won't get to London in an aircraft as big as a Cessna 152 in less than 5 hours. Ride the train, it will probably be faster.
