I traced two of my ancestors to the Civil War and they were both boys of 13. First cousins who both died. One for the north, the other for the south.

Which branch of the family I have so many ancestors who served its now become somewhat of a hobby to find them all.
My Great,Great grandfather served with company C, 7th Iowa Volunteer Infantry was shot through the Right leg by Misssouri buchwackers but lived and is Buried in the National cemetery in Leavenworth,Kansas, my other great,great grandfather served with Co.G,47th Illinois,Volunteer Infantry and is also buried in the National Cemetery in Leavenworth,Kansas he fought in many famous battles ie...

Also my other Great,great grandfather served with the 153 Indiana Infantry and he is buried here in Oklahoma

my mothers moms family were all Southern Confederates and many died at the Battle Shiloh.

Her and my Great,Great,great grandfather served with the 18th Mississippi Infantry Company B -- Benton Rifles
fought many battles so its always a learning process for me I love the "Civil War" era and finding out as much as I can about my ancestors who served and fought for both sides.
and I'm always cautious with the word "Civil War" as my mothers family says the "War of Northern Agression" I just enjoy learning about it.

I have very little history on this. One side of the family only was there. My aunt said their money came from selling hay for the horses to the government.
