Cats can only scratch so much to be effective. Persistent itches require another method to solve the problem. Biting seems to be the cat's way of dealing with an itch that's driving them nutz.

My cat does the same thing but he does not have any fleas. What they are doing is trying to get small clumps of hair out of their fur.

Itchy spots, or they're working knots out in their fur. Somethimes there's stuff in the fur and the biting helps get the fur untangled.

My cat does it and he doesn't have any fleas. I think they are just scratching an itchy spot. :)

dogs and cats that do this are releasing oils in to the fur..i read up on it a while back

It's sort of a scrub action, a spot they feel needs more attention.

yes it is catching fleas and very succesfully.
