technically no. but it wont cause any harm if its something as simple as a spoon. I saw an episode of mythbusters where they tested several metal objects in the microwave and the only one that made a spark was the balled-up aluminum foil. This is because the electromagentic waves can "jump" across small distances (crinkles in the foil), therby producing a spark like light. But most metal objects are completely harmless in the microwave such as spoons, forks, and metal bowls. But I wouldn't try it cuz...you never know.

I don't ever put metal in the microwave. But my dad already put a tieband w/ metal in there without thinking and it didn't hurt it. Sparks didn't even fly, I never tried a spoon or fork though! I had a gold trimmed plate and that really gets hot though!!!

Just do it and see what happens.

What will happen is that the metal will act as a lightening rod and draw the electromagnetic energy to itself in a large spark. Eventually, it will wreck the microwave oven.

If you have about $80 to spend on the experiment, it might be kind of fun to do.

The supermarket "trays" are designed for microwave use. I have no idea what they are made of but it's obviously not the normal "tin-foil" that goes mental when you put it in the microwave..If the instructions sat you can shove it in, then it's going to be fine..

NO! If you put metal in the microwave it could cause serious harm to your microwave. And possibly to you if your microwave explodes.

Although not dangerous, metal in your microwave reduces the life of the magnetron, which acts as a transducer and is the main component in your micorwave.

no, the micro waves will hit the metal and cause it to arc and explode the microwave.
