P0601 (M) Internal Controller Failure Internal control module fault condition (check sum) detected. What does this mean? I just had the computer replaced last week, and in the last month I've had the transmission, radiator, starter, and a head gasket replaced too. Please, no comments about getting rid of the POS. I'm trying to.

From the description, it sounds like a computer problem, but I just had a new one put in... Maybe it was faulty? Do they put rebuilt computers in or new ones?

if the car is under 8 years and 80,000 miles take it to the dealership. pcms are coverd by the extended federal emissions warranty... 8-80. po601 is an immediate pcm replacement, no diag needed.

sorry to hear about your luck with the neon...i LOVE mine, and actually went looking for a clean low mileage neon. we see very few problems with them at work unless they are beaten to death or mega miles on them.

I see some rebuilt PCMs for sale. I would take it back to the dealer who installed it and make them fix it.

They don't put ANYTHING new unless it's a belt, bulb, or spark plug. This page may answer some of your questions:
