Getting a tooth pulled is a last resort. If the tooth can be fixed with a root canal, have that done. You don't want to lose any teeth if you can avoid it. The dentist will examine your tooth and then recommend what kind of work you will need. If the tooth is starting to hurt, they will give you antibiotics and pain medication to take for a while, and then you will come back on another appointment to have your tooth fixed (or pulled if you really HAVE to.) Although if you've already been taking antibiotics, then maybe what's happening is a cavity and decay has just gotten too close to the nerve but maybe it's not infected yet.

If the damage and decay isn't real bad, it's POSSIBLE they might even be able to fix it with a filling, but if it's too deep you will have to get a root canal done.

But don't worry. I've had teeth taken out, and a root canal on one of my front teeth (a different tooth) and neither hurt. In fact, when I had to have a bad tooth taken out, I was surprised at how fast and painless it was. You'll hear some weird noises, and feel some slight pulling sensations...but it does NOT hurt. The dentist will give you a few shots of local anesthetic, which will completely block the nerves. He (or she) will put a numbing gel on your gum first so the shot doesn't hurt.

When I got a root canal on my other tooth, it wasn't that bad either. It was a little sore afterward, but not too bad.

If you do have to get the tooth pulled, you'll be sore for a few days afterward, but nothing you can't handle. Ibuprofen will work. But be sure you follow all the instructions the dentist gives you...and do NOT drink anything through a straw for at least 3 or 4 days, or however long the dentist tells you.

Whatever you have to get done, don't worry about it. Just talk to the dentist and see what you need. You'll be fine.

They dont normally every pull it without telling you they are going to, they might tell you to come back for this if it needs doing!

Okay.

I"m only thirteen, but I've had five teeth pulled.

When you go to the dentist, he/she will examine it...

Then they will tell you what they want to do with it...

Then they will give you a date to come back and they pull it...

Don't worry!

They numb your mouth...

It's painless...

if you insists they probably will, but more than likely they will try to talk you into getting a root canal
