Ok, SCIENCE: we are all made of Protons, nuetrons, and electrons, Tiney lil particles. Our brains fire off lil electric signals and thats how we feel, see, hear, think etc. My question is HOW, is it that protons nutrons and electron created you, the complex person that you are? YOU may say that we are doing the same thing in Robotics, and thats fine, but in that case we would be the gods of these creations. Someone might say Aliens, ok, but who made them? I can understand pagans, muslims, jews, hell even mormons, But Atheist and Protestants I dont understand. So if your "faith" isnt shakin Im looking for serios answers. p.s. yes I know I cant spell

The question is. How can you explain how the brain works without something, anything being involved. Atheist are quick to say God doesnt exist when a kid ask about religion, but 4 answers cant explain how we work without something. And 15 yrs of collage means a phd wouldnt know.

Nobody can give me an answer (wait 1 guy gave me 2 books). Im not home schooled, Im 26 beleive Evo and creat work hand in hand. Watched discovery, thought the alien bit was neat, not trying to disagree with them Because they acknowledge something. YOu guys are the Loadest Voice and when someone wants you to validate your views you cant, your as bad as my Fundamentilist brothers. Thanks, only 1 of you did your Philosphy justice

ok i sincerely don't understand what you are trying to ask. im going to assume you are trying to ask how the brain work from an atomic level. ok well as you know subatomic particles make up elements; our bodies are made up mostly of carbon and water atoms, and many millions of types of molecules. these form different types of cells just as a mass of carbon forms a block of graphite. now i will admit im not a leading biologists with 30 years of study under my belt, rather im 17, but basically specialized formations of atoms and molecules will form electrically conductive cells we know as neurons, which can recieve, and process, or transmit electrical signals. our brain as basically a mass of neural matter has specially adapted sections to interperet and relay messages to different parts of our body to do all sorts of things(movement, release of hormones, thinking). now if your asking me how the brain came to be, not even the most brilliant people in the world understand that yet so obviously your not going to find it on an internet forum.

You're a smart kid. Nobody else can comprehend the god thing.

But, honestly, we just are. There was the great gas cloud thing and then the planet formed. There was the primordial soup and cells formed from the organic matter, the cells evolved and evolved and we came about.

Have you ever taken bio? It's very easy to understand once you take that. Cells are just a membrane of proteins (I think... it's been too long) and the proteins are made of atoms, and the atoms are made of protons and neutrons and electrons, and they just are. Inside the cells are compounds made of atoms. The cells all link together to make us. It's very complex, and yet, it makes so much sense once you understand it.

Think of how matter cannot be created or destroyed. We might die and rot, but the atoms that make up the cells that make up us don't just disappear. They become like, the dirt, and such. Remember what Mufasa told Simba in the lion king?

It's a confusing thing to try and understand, but at least you want to know. Unlike some other people...

It's not a simple enough story to type in this forum, that's why someone recommended books.

If you really DO want to understand, it will take some intellectual work on your part.

Looking at brain function in terms of protons, neutrons, and electrons would not be helpful; you need to look at brain function in terms of cell-sized things.

You can look at cells in terms of atom-sized things, and atoms in terms of the 3 sub-atomic particles (and photons, and other stuff), but you're not going to get an intelligible story of brain function by talking about electrons and protons.

So, get yourself some accessible books on evolution, and on neurophysiology, and you'll have your answer.

It won't be a 50 word answer, but you COULD come to understand it fairly well, if you really wanted to.

Here's a website that may help:

http://www.newscientist.com

They have "special reports" and "instant expert" pages on the brain, on evolution, and on human evolution.

Some of the links on those pages are to stuff you have to pay to read, but other articles are free.

Short answer:

Complex elements formed in stars, which expelled material into space, which later coalesced into planets that therefore have complex elements.

Elements form into more complex materials (molecules, which is the pervue of chemistry).

We don't yet know exactly how complex chemicals came to self-replicate, but once that started, the process of natural selection operating on random mutation took over.

Among the changes that happened via that process were brains.

Then mammals (not the only brained things, but they are the sort of thing we are); then primates, then humans.

As I say, it's not a simple story; and not all is known about all the details, but if you want to understand it, it's well worth the effort, and most likely within your reach.

I'm slightly confused, but I think this is essentially an intelligent design argument--how is it possible that we exist as such complex beings without a creator.

The problem with this argument is that you introduce the notion of likelihood, which then immediately kills your argument. "It's impossible [i.e., completely unlikely] that such a complex world could have come into existence without a designer." But by that reasoning, the God you propose is so much infinitely MORE complex, HE becomes impossible. Or HE must have had a creator, and that creator must have had one, and on and on and on.

Also, there is a big difference between what humans create and what nature has created. A robot, for example...contains no extra or useless parts. A robot does not have an appendix or a tailbone, vestiges of evolution. Robot knees don't go bad, and robot lower backs don't suffer pain because their skeletons are not actually perfectly designed for walking upright. Our DNA is full of useless, dead-end junk that serves no purpose. As a design, it's actually pretty messy.

electons are the electrical signal, they have charge. However many electrons you have in an element is how reactive and other characteristics that element is.
these elements want to react with each other. they join together, they form chains, protiens....dna.
energy and matter and other forces work together to make us and everything. we are just complex strings of protein and dna which has formed a chain of reactions that has reached our level of complexity.

You are right though, no one knows EXATLY how the brain works, or how the universe works and every law of nature, indeed what created such laws in the first place.

In the scheme of things, the human brain isn't that amazing...just look at the massiveness of the universe or the minisculeness of atoms. Mankind is nothing but a blip in the scheme of all creation.

That is a really involved question.

I can't answer it in a short space. If you are really interested I would suggest you read two books:

1) The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, and
2) The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins.

Those two, together will give you as elequent an explanation as has ever been made.

What the f*k are you talking about. Aliens? Robotics? Did you just watch a show on the Discovery Channel you didn't agree with?

Yeah sorry, if you could type a little more clearly...I might be able to answer your question. As of right now, I have no idea what you're talking about.

When do we start saying... I'm here I'm alive and life is worth living.... we are evolving into better people when we begin to appreciate being here instead waisting our lives answering unanswerable questions we'll be better off... after 3 days of rain what do you do on a sunny day... enjoy the sun or complain about the last 3 days of rain...
