im not sure if i have tmj or not but i have the symptoms like headaches and earaches- which dont happen often but like once or twice a day and may last for 20-30 minutes. about the grinding part, i notice that sometimes at night my teeth would click- like it would do this thing real quick where you would bite something but nothing is in your mouth- or like hitting your bottom teeth and upper teeth together for a split second. something like that. now, would this be grinding your teeth? or would grinding your teeth mean having all your teeth together and moving them side to side? btw, how did your tmj start? thanks in advance...

Hi.Grinding one's teeth is known as Bruxism and not Tmj.The full form of Tmj is Temporo Mandibular joint, the joint which everyone has. It's not a condition
Whereas Bruxism is.
Some people have it because of non-allignment of teeth. Some people do it because of excess tension.
To know whether you have it,ask your partner to watch you once you have fallen asleep to note if you tighten your mouth during sleeping hours.Or make any movements.
TO fix it you will have to visit your dentist who will give you a mouth guard to wear when you go to sleep so that you don't unnecessarily erode your tooth enamel.

7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

First call around and find a dentist that does "Occlusal (bite) adjustment's". Go in for an assessment, to make sure this is really the problem. Your bite may be off and if so it's pretty easy to adjust so that you stop grinding.or you may need some type of appliance to wear which will help with this and relieve the pressure.

I have the same problem, but dont have a mouth guard. TMJ, isn't that lock-jaw? Could be nerves, try chewing gum. Muscle relaxants do help, but don't think there is a certain one. Anxiety pill could help too.
