when my son was born his dad was an alcoholic. he was struggling to cope with life mentally because he already had a kid (who he was seeing and supporting financially). i had some issues with depression and i was only eighteen. this other woman made my (and his) life hell. the whole situation with him, the other woman and my sons severe medical problems scared the crap out of me. so, i lied. i told him i had been sleeping with someone else and that my son wasnt his. i then moved home and changed my number. now ive got the depression sorted and my son is seven now. i know that he will start asking questions about him soon and will probably ask to meet him. should i hire someone to find him because i know they both have the right to know.
thanks for any good advice.

You can be honest with everyone... in doses.

When the kids starts asking questions, you can tell him that his daddy was gone long before he was born.

You can contact the ex and tell him that the child is his, and invite him for a visit if he wants to. Simply explain that you both had issues to overcome at the time and you didn't want to lay another layer of burden on him.

You can determine whether to introduce them, and whether he should be involved in rearing your son.
Keep it open-ended and try not to force anything.

I would hire someone to find him it should only cost about 100 dollars at the most.....they both deserve to know....If your son's dad is still drinking I would not get involved with him again!

I think you should. But first tell you son what happened explain to him and before son and father meet tell the dad what happened. It is the best way to work things out.

What for? You can't drop back into his life after 7 years, with a kid and announce GUESS WHAT I LIED, HE'S YOURS! Please! You've been your childs only parent until now, leave it like that.
