Myself and my partner are considering moving to Canada within the next 5 yrs. Do midwives exist in Canada or do they have maternity nurses. I have no nursing background but I have a degree in midwifery. I know that in the States they dont have midwives. Is this the same in Canada? We are from the U.K.

Yes, Ontario has an association of registered mid-wives.
Every Province administers their own health-care services.

Not only do we have midwives in Canada, but the profession is growing. More and more Canadian couples are delivering babies at home these days with the help of a midwife, including two friends of mine.

If you come to Canada -- particularly the province of Ontario, you'll have no problem finding work as a midwife.

Besides Ontario, New Brunswick has finally recognized midwives and other provinces are in the process of doing so. It's about time they did!

Both Ontario and Quebec utilize mid-wives and have a professional association. They are active in other provinces as well.
